Dustin Poirier has had a rollercoaster ride in MMA and UFC. ‘The Diamond’ has sharpened himself for more than a decade and has 30 wins with 9 losses in his stellar resume. Guess what? He has reached the perfect carats for being the shiniest ‘Diamond’ and now wants to retire after one more showdown. So where does he want the ‘last dance’ to happen?

It’s none other than the place where his MMA career took flight – Louisiana. He turned pro in 2009 and competed in the regional promotions and then Dana White discovered the uncut gem leading to the Louisiana native signing under UFC in 2011. Naturally, having the last fight of his amazing career in the same place would be a perfect way to hang up his gloves.

The former interim lightweight champ is expected to fight in Louisiana. As per his remarks in the Outta Pocket podcast, the UFC head honcho has accepted the offer. But what about his plans after retirement? Will he leave MMA altogether? While speaking to Mike Bohn from MMA Junkie, he spoke about his stint as the desk analyst for UFC 314. He said, “ I think I might have done it was this the fourth three or fourth, yeah getting more comfortable like anything? It’s the reps going with the flow kind of feeling comfortable with the people behind the cameras, and uh, I like it, man. I hope they keep bringing me back, yeah.”

Bohn asked further if he would be connected to MMA through the act of commentary and desk analyst roles, and Poirier was all in. He said, “Yeah, I’d love to know, be stay, connected to the sport uh once I lay the gloves down, if they want me back I’m there every time they ask, yeah.”

The Diamond’ further added that he loves MMA and this world has given him everything from accolades to money (his net worth is an estimated $10 million as per MMA Salaries!). But since he will move away from the Octagon after his last fight, who does he want as an opponent for his ‘last dance ’?

Dustin Poirier’s last opponent

There have been myriad speculations on who might fight against Poirier for his retirement bout, and Michael Bisping has intel on the same. In the recent YouTube video on his channel, ‘The Count’ hinted that he knows the identity of Poirier’s opponent.

He said, “He says he’s going to announce his last fight soon. I’ve got a feeling I know who that is. I think a lot of people know who it is as well. I heard from his coach, I know exactly who it is, but I’m not gonna say it right now because that’s not my place or position to be doing that.”

Poirier is adamant that he wants a ‘legends only’ fight and mentioned the same while speaking to Front Office Sports. On the other hand, Max Holloway has confirmed that he is targeting International Fight Week, and for his comeback fight, the ‘BMF’ titleholder has named Charles Oliveira as his top priority. Oliveira had told UFC Brasil that he was willing to clash with ‘Blessed’ for the BMF title. Holloway answered that quote shared by Championship Rounds and said, “International Fight Week?” on X.

On the other hand, Poirier wanted ‘Blessed’ as his last fight opponent as per his X post reply to @AceGoingLive, who posted, “@danawhite make @BlessedMMA vs @DustinPoirier  for the bmf title if this is Dustin’s final fight, this is the one we need.” The Louisiana native replied, “Last dance.” So what do you think? Will he get his desired opponent for his retirement fight?
