After UFC veteran Jim Miller‘s latest three-round back and-forth against Alexander Hernandez at the Apex, fans were once again reminded of Miller‘s long and illustrious MMA career. The 39-year-old who holds an impressive record of the most wins in UFC history came extremely close to adding one more to that stat against Hernandez. Despite losing the fight, fighters, and fans showered Miller with immense respect for turning up at such peak shape even at the age of 39. And deservedly so, considering that the veteran has enjoyed success while consistently facing almost every top contender in the division throughout his career.
Although Miller has notable fights under his belt with the likes of Dustin Poirier, Charles Oliveira, and Anthony Pettis, among many others, there was one matchup that the 39-year-old did not get the opportunity to be a part of. For MMA fans, it might come as a shock that the veteran was once slated to fight the former lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov. This information came to light after a short clip of a press conference involving Miller, and Dana White resurfaced online.
Now, it’s completely up to one’s imagination as to how the fight would have gone. However, there’s no denying that fans would collectively agree that it had the potential to turn into a one-sided beat-down for Miller.

Jim Miller shockingly claimed he’d love to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov following a win at UFC 172
In a press conference dated back to UFC 172, UFC president Dana White, while responding to a question about Jim Miller facing Nurmagomedov, claimed that he was interested in the matchup. While affirming the same, he responded: “Anything is possible. Like we said, we get back home and figure it out.”
Even Miller exuded confidence in his skills as he talked about facing the Russian.
“I’d love that fight. I know how to strike, I know how to grapple and I sure know how to wrestle too. I’d love that one.” stated Miller.

There is no denying that fighters from the previous generations all carried the same mentality when it came to accepting fights. And individuals like Miller serve as torchbearers of that mentality.
How would have Miller fared against the undefeated Dagestani?
Although the UFC veteran has had his run of big wins and a fair share of losses; facing Nurmagomedov and his wrestling would definitely have been an uphill task for the American. And fans would also agree with that. Of course, it’s important to note that it’s not a statement on Miller‘s skills, rather; it has more to do with the Russian’s ability to take down his opponents with ease and march toward a win. The fact that the former lightweight champ retired without losing any of his fights serves as a testament to that as well.
Despite that, would Miller have a chance against Khabib Nurmagomedov with his boxing and submission skills? Of course, there’s no denying that every fighter has a puncher’s chance. But if the likes of Conor McGregor or Dustin Poirier couldn’t knock him out, how much of a chance would Miller have had in the fight?
