Today, McCann moves forward to celebrate love in her life. However, it has never been a smooth sailing ride for her to express love the way she wants. Being an openly gay person, society placed a lot of barriers around her growing up. But at last, being the ‘fighter’ that she is, she prevailed through all the odds. And it was, in fact, MMA that helped her get through this tough time.

MMA helped Molly McCann battle society’s prejudice over being gay

McCann grew up in a rather orthodox background where being gay wasn’t viewed as an acceptable thing. And as reported by The Mirror, it was the MMA gym where she found her escape from all this chaos around her sexuality.

McCann stated, “Religion wouldn’t let you. My religion wouldn’t let me. Until I found MMA and had a safe space to be me, then I could be like ‘I’m Meatball now.” However, she is grateful to be a part of this generation, though, as things were far worse in previous generations. “I’m from a lucky generation as well, imagine the generation before me and the one before that. In the 1960s when the stonewall riots happened. It was illegal to be gay.”, said the UFC star.
