Long-time UFC commentator Joe Rogan is not really known for backing away from voicing his opinions. Especially when it comes to anything related to MMA, the famous podcaster has never shied away from pointing out what he feels is wrong or even stupid. During a recent episode of his podcast, the 55-year-old sat down with UFC light heavyweight champ Jamahal Hill and talked about a multitude of subjects. One topic that came up as the duo conversed was UFC fighter Johnny Walker and his infamous ‘worm’ celebration.
While talking about Walker as a fighter, Rogan recalled Walker‘s celebration that unfortunately caused him a shoulder injury. The UFC commentator used the incident to point out how some people end up hurting themselves by doing extremely stupid things like that.

Joe Rogan and Jamahal Hill on Johnny Walker’s ‘worm’ celebration
As both gentlemen talked about Walker‘s knockout power and his prowess as a fighter, Rogan recalled interviewing the light heavyweight after his infamous shoulder injury. The 30-year-old Brazilian ended up hurting his shoulder when he did his trademark worm celebration after claiming a victory at UFC 235.
The 55-year-old clearly remembered what Walker told him when he asked him about the injury: “When he did, that celebration drop down to do the worm and blew his shoulders up. What happened? I remember I was interviewing him. Is your shoulder ok? He’s like ‘no, no it’s not.”
Hill then pointed out that it was the adrenaline that probably numbed him at that moment. ” Adrenaline was still pumping that’s why he didn’t know how bad it was.” exclaimed the light heavyweight champ.
The stand-up comedian then went on to express his surprise at the entire incident: “Crazy that he did that on a celebration, destroyed his shoulder. Giant a** scar on his shoulder now. I don’t know how much that affects him still whether or not he’s okay. Cause fighters they’ll have like a thing where it’s forever that arms compromised and they are still fighting, they’re still winning but they don’t have full power in that arm anymore.”
As the duo replayed the sequence of Walker celebrating and subsequently injuring himself; they both noted the moment when he hurt himself.
“Right there, he slapped and blew his f**** left shoulder out. Right there ‘pop’ and now he’s got a giant f*** scar on his left shoulder. People have hurt themselves doing some stupid s**t.” stated Rogan while watching a clip of the celebration.
From this entire conversation and what Rogan described, it does look like the Brazilian ended up with a serious injury that many would feel could have been avoided.
More on Johnny Walker’s celebration
The 30-year-old Light heavyweight was an instant hit among fans after a good initial run of fights. Unfortunately, his celebration after UFC 235 cost him a lot. He went on to lose his next fights, casting doubts about his future. Following a few more losses, Walker currently finds himself on another two-fight win streak. The Brazilian, interestingly, did the same celebration again right after UFC 279 despite the previous injury.

Fans can choose to agree with Joe Rogan‘s views on people doing things that end up hurting them. And although some might feel that Walker should stay away from the ‘worm’, the fighter clearly loves doing it. In the end, it could just be the adrenaline rush during the fights that push fighters to celebrate in a wild manner after their wins.
