However, fans might have to wait longer. In an interview with ‘TMZ Sports’, Alvarez shared his thoughts on a fight with Usman. He said, “Never say no. But right now is not my in my future. No, not right now. … It’s all about legacy, right now. But you never know.”
Hence, it looks like the boxer is not closed off to a fight against the UFC champion. However, it might not be on the cards at this moment.

In addition to this, UFC President Dana White too shot down the matchup a while back. As per an article published by ‘MMA Fighting‘, White does not like the fight and in fact, called it ‘horrible’. This was mainly because Usman is primarily a grappler. He is not a boxer. Further, Canelo is one of the best boxers at the current time.
Therefore, Dana White feels that it is not a good matchup. Besides all this, with Usman being under contract with the UFC, he would need the promotion’s permission to pursue a boxing match.

Back in 2017, UFC star Conor McGregor was allowed to get into a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. White himself was involved. However, it was said to be a one-time deal. Hence, it would be interesting to see if any UFC fighter other than McGregor gets to box while under contract.
While the Usman-Canelo matchup might not reach fruition anytime soon, many have already given their opinion on what could happen. Apart from Dana White, UFC double-champ Daniel Cormier too shared his thoughts on Usman fighting Alvarez.
According to ‘DC’, Usman would not be able to defeat the boxer. Usman, however, has shown interest in the matchup. Hence, fans would have to stay tuned to see if either White or Alvarez changes their minds. What do you think?
