Mixed martial arts mirrors life in its unpredictability. Just like life, you can never truly predict what will happen inside the octagon. Unfortunately, this analogy was made all too real recently, as the MMA world lost one of its rising stars, Trevon Lawson. There have been incidents where death has knocked on the door of young blood, such as the recent loss of the 18-year-old Victoria Lee from ONE Championship.

Lawson, also known as ‘The Last Shinobi’, was a 26-year-old mixed martial artist born in Illinois. He had a record of 5-4 in his amateur career. He started his MMA journey in 2018 and had his last bout on February 24 in Compass Fight Series 2, where he lost to Kelton Sneve via a split decision. Sadly, he had been missing since April 16, and his family had stated that he was suffering from depression, and they had been desperately searching for him.

After being missing for days, it is now reported that Lawson is no more. This tragedy also shows that sometimes, even the strongest and most talented among us can fall victim to their inner demons. As soon as the news broke out online, condolences poured in for Lawson, who had a promising career ahead of him.

The Aurora native fighter was found dead in his car near Schaumburg. The cause of death was reported to be suicide, which has left the MMA community in shock and grief.

The family of Trevon Lawson released a statement, thanking the people involved in the search. The statement read, “We would also like to thank members of the Chicago-area media who immediately broadcast the news about our missing person and stayed the course with us.”

It also mentioned, “Thank you to our community (family and friends) who responded to our call for help by personally searching for our champ, ultimately leading to his location, and the start of this difficult but needed journey of healing and closure.”

Lawson’s untimely death serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of mental health and how it can impact one’s life in unexpected ways.
