Just like most UFC events, the recently concluded UFC 305 event lived up to its expectations. The main event of the night featured two longtime rivals. Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya battling it out in Perth, Australia, looking to end the debate of the ‘Real African’ once and for all. However, it seems that their intense rivalry has finally come to an end.

After defeating ‘Izzy,’ Du Plessis showed nothing but respect for the 35-year-old during his post-fight interview. He even termed the former champion a legend and also put an end to the rivalry. MMA Fighting took to their Instagram account to share a video of the pair hugging and congratulating each other. During the press conference, Du Plessis mocked the former champion when he said he will go to Nigeria if he wins the belt.

What followed was utter chaos as ‘Izzy’ replied , “Bro shut the f** up! You don’t even know anything about my story. You have no idea who the f** I am!”. Adesanya also pointed it out that his rivalry with Du Plessis started after he termed himself as the first African champion. Now, with both fighters shaking hands and showing respect to each other, has taken the fans by surprise. The fans took notice of the whole and shared their opinion on the whole.

Fans not in favor of Du Plessis and Adesanya ending their rivalry

During the pre-fight press conference, Adesanya was seen in tears after Du Plessis mocked the former champion’s childhood. However, the champion proved to be a true gentleman and showed his respect for Adesanya. Though the two fighters ended it on a good note, some UFC viewers were not happy and they took to the comment section to share the same. One user seemed absolutely unfazed by the whole gesture and commented, “Bro u just got sub stop trying to be friendly, if u had won u would how played it differently so I’m not buying this BS.”

Echoing the same sentiment, a few others wrote, “Nah Nah this is wrong”, “I wonder what happens if Adesanya won the fight” .Somehow, the fans didn’t quite like the idea of both fighters showing respect to each other after such a heated rivalry. One user commented, “Naw I don’t like that.”

Meanwhile, a handful of social media users were super impressed with the gesture of two competitive athletes and one of them commented, “Two grown mens who can compete with class and respect!” Most MMA fighter enter the Octagon with one victory in their mind, however it’s good to see such kind of respect between the two, “Love to see this kind of respect shown after the war ends.” Another user also seemed not much impressed by the gesture and commented, “There FAKE!”

Both fighters put on a show for the fans and went all out in their clash. One user appreciated the fact and commented, “Respect to both for squashing it.” Adesanya is one of the biggest stars in the UFC at the moment and has a massive fan following all around the world. However, he does have his critics as well who, after watching the video, commented, “Izzy wouldn’t do this if he won. ” 

There have been many rivalries in the past in the UFC which caught the attention of the fans. However, this rivalry seems to be coming to an end slowly.
