Ronda Rousey considering a comeback—Is she risking too much, or does she still have it?

It seems that every couple of years, there are rumors that Ronda Rousey is coming back to the UFC. And it is easy to see why. Still the best-known female mixed martial artist, even eight years after her retirement, simply because ‘Rowdy’ is part of the history of the sport. After all, the former Strikeforce champion is the main reason women fight in the UFC, having convinced UFC CEO Dana White to go ahead with women’s divisions despite his earlier public insistence to the contrary. The UFC’s first female champion, of course, then went on to defend her title five before losing it to Holly Holm in a huge upset at UFC 193.

One year later, the judoka was out of the UFC. Since then, ‘Rowdy’ has opened up about the brain damage she has taken, making it impossible to return. However, despite her well-known unpopularity among fans, there was some buzz that she might be looking to comeback to fighting especially since her WWE contract ended last year.

The former UFC champion, however, has firmly put any such reports to rest, and confirmed yet again that she is done with fighting for good. Why? Well because, according to her, she is ‘neurologically unfit’ most probably due to CTE, which is quite common among fighters.

“Every couple years… The same rumor comes out. It’s nice to feel missed, I guess. But it’s not happening. I’m not neurologically fit to compete anymore at the highest level. I just can’t,” Rousey said recently. And fans were not very concerned that Rousey was not going to be back in the UFC.

Fans react to Ronda Rousey refuting UFC return rumors

Given her unpopularity among fans, it was not surprising to see most fans ridicule Rousey and declare that neither the fans nor the fighters want her to fight again. One fan, for example, dismissed her entirely: “Ain’t no one want her back.” Another took a more sarcastic tone and expressed, tongue firmly in cheek, that the fans were undoubtedly ‘devastated’ on hearing Rousey shoot down the comeback rumors: “Aww we are all so devastated 🥸”

One fan, for some bizarre reason, thought that Rousey taking enough brain damage to render her unable to fight was some kind of achievement: “Not being neurologically able to fight is quite the flex 😅”

One even pointed out why the fans had turned on her despite her many achievements and trail-blazing career: “She has 0 striking, 0 sportsmanship in defeat, 1 trick pony with the armbar, I could keep going but”

Another fan, however, was not as dismissive as the other fans, claiming a few changes in her technique and she would be ready for the big stage again: “She just needs a little more head movement.” What are your thoughts on Rousey’s statement?
