A few years back Ireland-born Ian Garry dropped out of university to pursue his dream of becoming a big name in the MMA industry like his fellow countryman, Conor McGregor. However, Garry’s family didn’t support him in pursuing the sport. Hence, he had to take odds jobs to make ends meet.

And after years of hard work, ‘The Future’ made his professional MMA debut at Cage Warriors in 2019. He secured back-to-back wins after his debut and earned his first title shot in 2021, which he won via decision.

After a perfect 8-0 record, Garry made his UFC debut in 2021 with a stunning first-round knockout finish at UFC 268. He also said the famous McGregor “takeover” line in his octagon interview.

Although Garry had come so far in his MMA journey, his parents weren’t happy about him dropping college. Garry revealed that his mother wrote him a letter after he decided to pursue MMA and slid it under his room door.

Garry’s mother wrote in the note, “Ian, taking a year out to figure out what you’re going to do is stupid. I will not support someone who gives up on themselves and takes the easy way out. Being the next Conor McGregor is not a f***ing plan!” (H/T: Mirror)

Who is Ian Garry fighting next?
