UFC 300 was Charles Oliveira‘s chance to get some goodwill back after the UFC 294 pullout and enter the title picture again. But the split decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan ruined those plans. Seven months after the fight, ‘Do Bronxs’ has a few words for how things turned out at UFC 300, and although he is composed, he is not happy.
Did Tsarukyan do enough to win the fight via decision? Charles Oliveira doesn’t quite feel so. ‘Freak MMA’ shared a post on their Instagram page where ‘Do Bronx’ pointed out precisely what happened in the fight. They shared a caption that read, “ Man, I think I actually won the first round. The second round I lost. He was more effective with his elbows. And the third round I think I won too. But I’m a non-controversial guy. That’s gone. I fought all three rounds, and I did not sweat for a single moment, so l left that fight wanting to fight.”
The Brazilian fighter started the fight rapidly and was able to put Tsarukyan in a lot of trouble with a guillotine choke. Many felt that he would tap out and would succumb to the pressure of the choke. However, the 28-year-old managed to counter it and later won the fight via submission. The win helped him become the number one contender, and he will now be challenging Islam Makhachev for the title next.

Oliveira will definitely focus on his upcoming fight as he is up against a very formidable challenge in Michael Chandler. ‘Iron’ has been waiting for a long time to get back to action and has finally got an opponent. He will be making a return to the Octagon after a gap of nearly two years, and one of his old rivals feels he might struggle against the former champion.

Dustin Poirier seemingly sealed the deal on his beef with Michael Chandler with a submission win at UFC 281. However, he still fires off a shot or two at his rival. ‘The Diamond’ was recently seen at the ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut, where he discussed the stacked fight card of UFC 309. The event features two fighters who ‘The Diamond’ has faced in his career – one who he choked out, and another who choked him out.
Brendan Fitzgerald was eager to tap into Poirier‘s experience and asked him to pick his favorite between the two. The former interim champion had no hesitation in picking Oliveira. While he does believe that Chandler has the ability to come out on top, Poirier feels the Brazilian might just be too tough to handle. He said, “I think it’s a fun matchup, but I think if Charles Oliveira goes into this fight with the same mindset he had when I fought him or the first time Chandler fought him, I think he’s going to get the win. Chandler’s very explosive, an incredible athlete, and can hurt or finish Charles, but I just think Charles is going to be better everywhere—on the feet and on the ground.”

This is not the first time Poirier has picked against Chandler. The Lafayette, Louisiana resident picked Conor McGregor over Michael Chandler when their fight was making headlines.
Chandler and Oliveira previously fought each other at UFC 262, and Oliveira managed to win the fight by knockout in the second round. Can the Brazilian repeat the same performance once again? Or will Michael Chandler be able to cause an upset and settle the score at UFC 309? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
