Why isn't there a Women's BMF title in the UFC? Are female fighters being overlooked?

UFC Denver saw some intense clashes, with Drew Dober helping to elevate the card. However, the main event of the night appeared to have disappointed a faction of the MMA community, who were expecting a grandiose fight. At the UFC Denver main event, former women’s strawweight champion, Rose Namajunas locked horns against flyweight prospect Tracy Cortez to maintain her #6th ranked status.

Initially, Namajunas was scheduled to clash against Maycee Barber, however, the #4th ranked fighter had to pull out of her clash after a health complication. Regardless, Tracy Cortez stepped in at the very last moment to take on the former champion. A win against Namajunas would have pulled her close to Alexa Grasso for the flyweight title but what ensued was a thrashing defeat.

“Thug” took Cortez into a spiral as she clinched the victory by way of a unanimous decision. The official results were 49-46, 49-46, 48-47. Tracy Cortez was undefeated under the promotion and was riding a six-fight winning streak ahead of her clash against Namajunas. On the other hand, “Thug” was 1-3 in her last 4 fights and this win was necessary for her.

Cortez’s defeat coincided with the UFC administration’s rumored inte͏ntion t͏o introduce the first-ever Women’s BMF title. However, after the lackluster main event, the MMA community is now less enthusiastic abou͏t seeing it come to fruition.

Female BMF deemed too early after UFC Denver
