At the co-main event of UFC 291, Alex Pereira managed to outpoint Jan Blachowicz on the scorecards. In what was his divisional debut, the Brazilian managed to steal the victory from the former Light-Heavyweight champion. However, this win wasn’t without its controversy, with many fans and Blachowicz disputing the decision.

According to many, the Pole’s ground control was more decisive than Pereira’s better performance on feet. Regardless, Pereira is the official winner now and has started his 205lb division spell with a banger. But that brings the question, what’s next for the fighter? Will he go back to middleweight or continue to fight in the Light-Heavyweight division?

At the post-fight press conference of UFC 291, Alex Pereira shared his insight regarding his future plans in the UFC. According to the Brazilian, he would like to win the Light-Heavyweight title and then go back to middleweight. He further added that his comeback to the 185 lb division would be a rematch with Israel Adesanya.

In his short spell with the UFC, the fighter has already been in several high-profile bouts, including a heavily hyped-up rivalry with the current champion Israel Adesanya. For those unaware, this rivalry dates back to their time as kickboxers. Pereira holds a record of 0-2 against the Kiwi, including his only KO loss in his entire career. So when ‘Poatan’ made his transition to MMA, fans were excited to see the two men go toe to toe inside the octagon. Pereira didn’t disappoint.

Pereira managed to finish Israel Adesanya in the first encounter, ending his undefeated streak and capturing the middleweight crown. But earlier this year, at UFC 287, ‘The Last Stylebender’ took his revenge and claimed the UFC 185 gold back. After this, fans were speculating a match between the two, but instead, Pereira moved up.

Nevertheless, ‘Poatan’ has made it clear that the fight is still in his plans. But before that happens, he would like to claim the UFC’s 205-pounder title. For those unaware, his fight with Blachowicz is being speculated as a title eliminator to fight Jiri Prochazka next. It is noteworthy that Pereira was Glory’s first two-division champion. Keeping this in mind, it would be interesting to see if he can repeat the same magic in the UFC.
