Is Renato Moicano being unfairly snubbed in the UFC lightweight rankings? What's your take?

Renato Moicano stunned the world when he defeated Benoit-Saint Denis last Saturday at UFC Paris. ‘Money Moicano’ was the underdog in that fight but little did the MMA community know that he would be coming in guns blazing against the French fighter. After dominating ‘God Of War’ in the first round, Moicano continued the assault in the second round as well until the doctors came in to stop the match and handed over the victory by TKO doctor stoppage to the Brazilian. However, despite the spectacular performance, Moicano failed to qualify for the bonus. Well, the new rankings have come up and it appears that ‘Money Moicano’ is completely done with the promotion as well as Dana White.

Af͏ter͏ such a performance, it’s clear t͏hat the͏ promot͏ion give͏s a higher ͏r͏anking to ͏cert͏a͏in fighter͏s. ͏However, the ͏new light͏weight ͏ranking tab͏l͏e shows no ͏change des͏p͏i͏te Renato Moican͏o’s͏ back-to-b͏ack ͏victo͏ri͏es against top opponents. Moicano is riding a four-fight winning streak and three out of his last four victories have come by way of finishes but despite that UFC admins have placed the Brazilian fighter at #11th on the lightweight table.

John Mo͏rgan, ͏h͏ost ͏of ‘͏The M͏MA Road Show,’ recently released the new UFC lightweig͏ht͏ r͏a͏nkings and recognized that Mo͏icano wou͏ld not͏ be plea͏sed wit͏h wh͏at h͏e was a͏bout t͏o see, “Renato@moicanoufcmay have something to say about the latest official rankings update following #UFCParis. He is not rewarded for his win over Benoit Sant Denis with any movement, and instead stays locked in at No. 11. “BSD” also stays in his spot at No. 12.”

Looking at this, Renato Moicano took to his X handle to attack the UFC administration with no filters, “If UFC Rankings Aren’t Total Bulls–t, I Should Be Ranked #6 in the Lightweight Division Tomorrow. Why? In the last 8 months, I’ve fought 3 times and I’m on a 6-fight win streak in the lightweight division, with 5 stoppages,” wrote Moicano.

The fighter further added a long thread of X posts where he emphasized why he should be ranked at #6th rather than #11th. He wrote, “#10 Max Holloway: A legend, but he’s a 145 and will be facing Topuria for the featherweight belt at UFC 308. Even if he loses, his spot in the lightweight rankings makes no sense. He just beat Gaethje, so if anything, he should be ranked #3. I’d gladly take #7 if that was case.”

Moicano further added, “#9 Rafael Fiziev: Coming off 2 losses to Mateusz Gamrot and Justin Gaethje. His last fight was in September 2023. #8 Mateusz Gamrot: Coming off a loss to Dan Hooker in August 2024.#7 Beneil Dariush: Coming off 2 losses to Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan. His last fight was in December 2023.” Well, Moicano’s anger is palpable considering the fact that despite such an amazing performance, the promotion didn’t give him the Performance of the Night bonus.

Renato Moicano disappointed with the promotion

After the victory, Renato Moicano was sure that the promotion would award him with a performance bonus but the other was the case. After the hubbub, a heartbroken Moicano took to his X handle to add, “So beating a France in Paris main event with a 10-8 first round doesn’t get you a bonus #ufc What do you guys think ?!”

The Brazilian fighter has delivered consistently amazing performances over the past six years, yet he has not won any Performance of the Night (POTN) awards during that time. Well, Moicano is a dominant fighter, and sooner or later, the promotion will understand that it’s time for him to fight the top contenders.

Interestingly, following his victory, Moicano called out both Paddy Pimblett and Dan Hooker for a potential fight.“Next, I want easy money. Paddy Pimblett, easy money. Dan Hooker, easy money. Don’t come up with bullsh*t fights. Don’t come up with guys that are tough. I want easy fights. I just beat a hell of an athlete everybody was talking about, Benoit Saint-Denis. But guess what, Money Moicano is the man tonight.”

Renato Moicano’s upcoming fight could be his opportunity to stake a claim for a title shot against Islam Makhachev. Regardless, what’s your take on ‘Money Moicano’s situation?
