UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington summarized the division. ‘Chaos’ also commented on fellow top-ranked fighter Leon Edwards who recently fought at UFC 263 in Arizona.

‘Rocky’ is 9-0-1 in his last 10 fights and is knocking on the door of a title shot after his recent win. However, Colby Covington, who is the next man in line, doesn’t feel like Leon Edwards has done enough to warrant a title shot. Covington believes Edwards needs a couple more wins under his belt before he can ask for the ultimate prize in combat sports.

In a chat with MMAFighting’s Mike Heck, he said “What’s he on a 1 fight win streak now? His last fight he should have been DQ’d. Edward Scissorhands poked the guy in the eye like two or three times and he was warned in the back by Herb Dean, ‘Hey don’t poke in the eyes, keep your hands closed when you throw punches’. He didn’t listen to instructions, and he broke the rules twice so his winning streak is broken up. He needs to come back and beat somebody relevant, somebody, in the top 5.”

“Besides that, stop crying. You’re a mumbling, fumbling idiot. No one wants to hear you talk. Your accent is a joke and your fighting is even worse… He’s the one that backed out of the Woodley fight originally. There was people fighting during the whole pandemic during COVID. He didn’t want to fight.”

‘Rocky’ Edwards is currently the number 3 ranked fighter in the division and has faced all comers placed before him. Despite reportedly turning down the Tyron Woodley fight, Edwards was the only fighter ready to face Khamzat Chimaev. Not to mention, he stepped into the cage against Belal Muhammad, who doesn’t quite have the ranking or notoriety in the division.

Furthermore, the only two fighters in the rankings above him already have fights targeted for them going forward. Gilbert Burns takes on Stephen Thompson while Covington is expected to be Kamaru Usman’s next opponent. That leaves Leon Edwards having to once again fight someone below him in the rankings.

The only fight to book apart from a title shot next would be a scrap against Jorge Masvidal. As ‘Gamebred’ is a big name and is coming off a loss in a title fight, it’s a high-profile striking battle that is undoubtedly the only viable option if Edwards doesn’t want to sit out.
