One of the most recent guests to join Paddy Pimblett on his ‘Chattin Pony’ podcast was none other than the UFC veteran Francisco Santos Mir III a.k.a Frank Mir. Mir holds a record for the longest tenure in UFC history. He also holds another impressive record, for the most submission wins in the heavyweight category. Interestingly enough, Mir didn’t just stand out in the MMA ring, he did so quite on his wedding day, too.

Mir talked about a wide range of topics on the podcast, including his time in the UFC, his retirement, and his personal life. During his conversation with Pimblett, he revealed a rather funny story about his wedding day.

Frank Mir tells his wedding jeans story

Frank Mir was a busy man during his MMA days. And he recalled how being so active resulted in him wearing jeans on his wedding day. He told Pimblett, “When my wife and I first got married, because of my schedule such as you know right, it was hard to plan a wedding.” He further added, “So, we got married at the Little Chapel of the West here in Las Vegas. And it wasn’t a special wedding. I mean, obviously like you know, I think I wore jeans.”

Just like any other young girl, Frank Mir’s wife Jennifer Mir had certain expectations of how her wedding should be and jeans were definitely not on the list.

Mir said, “So my wife afterwards was like, ‘Hey, you know, no little girl dreams this is going to be their wedding. I get it that we’re doing this so we’re legally together and married, but you know I want the wedding.’”

A horrible accident followed by a $45,000 wedding

Obeying his beloved wife, Mir decided to have the proper wedding ceremony that his wife had dreamed of. Right before the wedding, Mir gifted himself a motorcycle, catering to his adrenaline rush. And just 10 days to the wedding day, Mir met with a horrible accident, injuring his leg, tearing a bunch of tendons, knee dislocation, and causing several other injuries.

Frank Mir remembered getting wheeled to the surgery room. He stated, “It was probably the most painful experience of my life, that we drove from Vegas to Sacramento, which is about a 9-hour drive. I took a bunch of pain pills and a bottle of vodka (laughs) and sat in the back of the truck. My wife drove and every bump I felt. It was ungodly.”

However, Frank Mir managed to make it to the ceremony and made sure that he makes his wedding day memorable, for all the good reasons there. And he did, too. Frank Mir and Jennifer Mir are married for over 16 years now.
