Former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier spoke out via his ESPN show and talked about Khamzat Chimaev’s recent call-out. ‘Borz’ challenged Cormier to a wrestling match and, knowing Chimaev, he was in no way joking around.
In the UFC’s welterweight division, Khamzat Chimaev is a marauder to be reckoned with and he believes he can dominate Cormier on the mat.

However, the former USA Olympic wrestling team captain in Cormier had differing views on Chimaev’s chances of beating him. In an ever-affable manner, ‘DC’ shut down the Swedish-Russian fighter and made it clear that he would lose their potential match. Not to mention, he also ended up revealing how he really felt about going up against Swedish wrestlers.
“Khamzat, this is crazy my brother. You can wrestle, I saw you beat Jack Hermansson, but there’s no way you can wrestle me in a wrestling match. Khamzat Chimaev, no disrespect to the beautiful people of Sweden… when I was in the Olympics, if I saw Sweden on the bracket, I had a by. Like that is how I looked at a match between me and anyone from Sweden. I understand the Russian roots.”

“You got the skills Khamzat. I love you my friend but fall back, you don’t want the smoke. You were good calling out Brock Lesnar and Georges St-Pierre, you don’t want this smoke.”

‘Borz’ has become more outspoken than ever following his utter domination of Li Jingliang at UFC 267. Given the way he performed in that fight, it’s hard to deny that he’s truly a heavy hitter in every sense of the word.
Chimaev has gone after a plethora of fighters on the UFC roster and it’s clear that no one is off-limits. However, he’d be well advised to focus on the talent-rich welterweight division, which is a shark tank at the moment. Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has taken notice of the moves Chimaev has made and he’s looking to shut down the hype.
