The UFC universe has been in splits ever since the UFC 293 PPV. Sean Strickland defeated former champ Israel Adesanya – taking home his first Middleweight Championship belt. But the aftermath of this victory is shrouded with controversy. Why? Well, it’s because ‘Izzy’ has potentially been bestowed with a golden opportunity to take back his title, via a rematch with ‘Tarzan.’
Weighing in on this idea, Conor McGregor’s compatriot Ian Garry, the prodigious UFC Welterweight star, has recently given his two cents. But there’s a more intriguing narrative that Garry is looking forward to manifest – a fight with his “dream opponent” for a UFC fight card in Dublin. So, who is Garry’s dream opponent?

Ian Garry recently sat down with Ariel Helwani for an in-depth discussion on The MMA Hour. During his conversation with Helwani, the 25-year-old Irish fighter gave his two events on the UFC 293 Middleweight title clash. But that’s not all – as he also made some intriguing comments about his UFC 292 performance and his wish for a potential clash with Colby Covington.
The MMA Hour host kicked off the conversation about Garry’s ‘dream opponent,’ asking, “Who’s the opponent – let’s say in March, St Patty’s weekend, Ireland? Who’s the dream opponent?”
When asked about his dream opponent for a potential UFC fight card in Dublin, Ian Garry didn’t hesitate to drop a name that caught everyone’s attention – Colby Covington. He declared, “Colby Covington – I would love to — Oh my God – at home[Dublin, Ireland]. The only thing that annoys me about that is – I [will] have more fun doing that in Miami.”
The mention of Covington sparked intrigue, and Garry didn’t hold back in expressing his enthusiasm for such a matchup. Garry’s dream scenario involves facing Covington in a fight, and he envisions doing it in style – be it in Miami or his home turf, in Dublin.

Moreover, it seems like ‘Machado’ relishes the idea of walking into Covington’s territory and taking on the challenge in front of Covington’s fans. Likewise, he further asserted, “In his background – walk into Miami. Slap him out of – in front of all of his fans. I have no problem playing the heel. I have no problem going out there and being the bad guy for a weekend, because at the end of the day when I put him unconscious – I’m gonna have a smile on my face… ”
For Garry, it’s not just about winning; it’s about winning in a way that leaves a lasting impression. Concluding his thoughts, the 25-year-old Irish star remarked: “Look, you asked me what my dream opponent was. That would be the dream opponent in Ireland. To go in there and absolutely starch him – that’d be unbelievable!”

It’s important to note that the UFC hosted its last Fight Night PPV card (UFC Fight Night 46) in Ireland way back in 2014. This was the event where Conor McGregor slept his rival Diego Brandao with a barrage of punches. So, is Garry trying to recreate a similar scenario and give the Irish fans another extravagant UFC fight in Dublin? Nothing can be said for sure. What do you think? Will ‘Machado’ be able to manifest his ‘dream fight’? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
