MMA fans might not be privy to many pop singers and rappers, but everyone might know Drake. Why? Not because of his Grammy awards or famous ‘Hotline Bling’ song, but for another reason- The Drake Curse. He has never won a single bet he put on sports teams or UFC fighters. In 2016, he draped the Irish flag on Conor McGregor before his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. What happened? McGregor lost. Sean Strickland lost to Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297, and Israel Adesanya lost to Sean Strickland after Drake bet $500,000 at UFC 293. There is too much evidence, but he is not the only curse giver. In the 21st century, MMA fans still seem to be hunting witches, blaming them for the curses of daily life.
UFC content creator Nina Marie Daniele has also been jokingly accused of cursing fighters before their event. Whenever she films a video with a fighter who has a title shot, they end up losing or cancelling the fight. Previously, we’ve also seen fighters like Arman Tsarukyan getting injured after she interviewed him, or Alex Pereira, lose to Magomed Ankalaev after making a video with her before his fight. This time, the internet personality interviewed both Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes before their title shot, just as Drake bet on their fight, choosing Volkanovski.
Before fans could turn on her as they did on Drake, she cleared the air in a comment under the official UFC 314 video uploaded by Dana White. She said, “I filmed with BOTH fighters so I don’t wanna hear anything about a Nina Curse.”

However, fans did come for her saying things like, “Oh no.. Volk just unlocked The Nina Curse”, and “Bet the house on Lopes now he’s made a vid with her.” However, she defended herself in a different post as well.
Nina Marie Danielle broke the silence on the ‘Nina Curse’
Diego Lopes collaborated with the YouTube star for a workout session before the mega event. Immediately, the MMA fans were bombarded with their fear of the ‘curse’. Before UFC 313, Pereira had made a video with Daniele. He then went on to lose the heavyweight title to Magomed Ankalaev via unanimous decision. Marvin Vettori also teamed up with Daniele before UFC Vegas 104, and he was later defeated by Roman Dolidze.

She immediately defended herself on Instagram after the recent ordeal, saying, “There’s no Nina Drama curse! I filmed with BOTH fighters. The worst thing that can happen… a draw.” However, now there is a bigger power to fear- the Drake curse. The famous rapper bet $545,000 on Alexander Volkanovski to win his UFC 314 title fight.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Volkanovski break the 'Drake Curse' and prove age is just a number in UFC?
Have an interesting take?
On top of that, the Aussie is fighting the tidal curse that fans believe fighters have to endure after they cross the age of 35. All the fighters from the UFC’s men’s divisions under welterweight have always lost their title fights if they were competing at the age of 35 or above, as per Sports Illustrated. With so much power at odds, will Volk win? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
