Nick Diaz has not competed in the UFC since his UFC 183 fight against Anderson Silva. That fight took place back in 2015 and since then Diaz has not competed in any form of combat sports. However, recently there has been much talk of Nick Diaz returning to action this year.

While speculation was ongoing whether the UFC would be willing to give Nick Diaz a comeback fight was unknown, that was put to rest when Dana White, in a recent interview, said that Diaz will fight this year. Now though, in a recent conversation with the MMA Fighting, Cesar Gracie revealed something surprising.

We were looking at September. I have to see where he is in his contract. It is possible that his next fight will not be in the UFC. Nick is very open to take a fight in MMA or boxing.”

This came as a surprise as everyone was expecting a UFC comeback for Diaz. When Gracie was asked whether Nate Diaz was a free agent, he wrote “we are studying that possibility.”

However, MMA Fighting followed up on the same and according to a source Diaz is still part of the UFC roster. Therefore, it will interest everyone to see whether Diaz is allowed to compete outside the UFC or will we see him back in the Octagon.

Should Nick Diaz make a comeback to Combat Sports?

While Nick Diaz did compete in the UFC back in 2015, which in itself is a long time again. The fact that is the most astounding is that Diaz last won a fight way back in 2011, almost a decade ago.

Diaz’s last UFC victory was against B. J. Penn at the UFC 137 event on October 29, 2011. Diaz won that fight via a unanimous decision and also won the Fight of the Night award for the same. The fact that Diaz won his last fight that long ago is a worrying factor and whether he returns to UFC or anywhere else, that will affect the way he fights.
