UFC 292 was an electrifying night, but surely not for Aljamain Sterling. The former UFC champion lost his bantamweight title against Sean O’Malley in an unexpected fashion. In the early seconds of the second round, O’Malley landed a powerful right that sent Sterling straight to the ground.

After a few more punches, the referee Marc Goddard, called a stop to the contest. While the world celebrated O’Malley’s success, many started debating whether it was an early stoppage. ‘Funk Master’ himself addressed this and expressed his disappointment with the way his fight ended. Moreover, his friend and teammate Merab Dvalishvili also stood with Sterling and called the UFC 292 an early stoppage.

In an interview with TMZSports, Dvalishvili displayed his sadness while talking about the UFC 292 main event. According to the UFC bantamweight, Sterling was dominating the fight until O’Malley caught him with a powerful punch. “It was heartbroken to see how Alho was (in) good shape and how he can dominate the fight. And he got caught and Sean did what he was supposed to do,” he said.

Going further, he made some bold remarks on the referee. According to the #1 UFC bantamweight, the referee stopped the fight early as ‘Funk Master’ was pretty much in his senses. “The referee stop Aljo a little early because Aljo was fighting, he wasn’t out or anything. He was just defended, first he was trying to catch the legs, and then he made a turn. He tried to do other move to get out of the situation and the referee just jumped,” he added.

According to Dvalishvili, this is a repetitive behavior from referee Marc Goddard. Further, the fighter also admitted to being scared of such behavior in his fights. “That’s what Marc Goddard does and that’s why I have Marc Goddard phobia,” he added.

“I’m not saying I would have come back in miraculously won that fight. Maybe he puts me out cold,” he said. “Or I get to the leg and he gets tired and maybe I get to take down and maybe it’s a crazy five-round war. We now will just never know”, he added.

Irrespective of the analysis and what-if scenarios, there is no changing the fact now that there is a new bantamweight champ in town. How does Sterling come back from this loss? This is something that will keep MMA fans glued to his future movements.
