Alexander Volkanovski is a very special fighter. The Australian sits atop the UFC’s pound-for-pound list because of this. It is not hard to imagine other fighters dreading the prospect of facing him. He is a relentless, well-rounded fighter with a huge heart and the endurance to match it.

He has already defeated former featherweight champion Max Holloway, who was considered the greatest featherweight of all time before Volk, thrice in their three encounters. And Chael Sonnen has come out and said that the Australian has distinguished himself from the likes of Jon JonesConor McGregorand Francis Ngannou in one particular aspect.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Sonnen called Alexander Volkanovski the scariest fighter in UFC history. He pointed out that no fighters, except Max Holloway, are willing to call out the former rugby player. This, he explained, differs from even arguably the greatest MMA fighter Jon Jones, who was called out by Sonnen himself, Alexander Gustafsson, and Daniel Cormier.

“Would you care to tell me somebody that’s called out Volk? I mean that’s really an amazing thing. It is to the point that Volkanovski is calling out guys for not calling him out. This has never happened. As great as Jon Jones’s career was, I could think of people [who] called him out. You’re looking at one of them,” he said.

‘The Bad Guy’ also drew comparisons between Alexander Gustafsson, Conor McGregor, Francis Ngannou, and even Georges St-Pierre. He stated that all these fighters had been called out by other fighters, some of whom they dismissed or ignored. This was in contrast to how other fighters treated Volkanovski.

“Conor McGregor was called out all the time. Conor dismissed the callouts. Conor’s not completely wrong. Regardless… throughout his career, he was called out. Francis and Gane, same boat. George Saint Pierre, same boat,” the Oregonian said.

Sonnen pointed out that only former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling had been somewhat willing to call out the Australian. But, because of ‘Funkmaster’s respectful demeanor, it did not come across as a proper call-out according to ‘Uncle Chael’.
