UFC’s ‘Notorious’ star Conor McGregor has made innumerable headlines since his failure to add himself to the USADA roster. While his fight with TUF Season 31 rival coach Michael Chandler is nowhere near the horizon, it looks like the Irishman is looking for a new opponent.

But then the question arises – who will UFC’s ‘Notorious’ clash against? Well, one of Nate Diaz’s teammates has some intriguing suggestions about who the Irishman might face next.

In a recent interview, MMA journalist, Dave Schmulenson, better known by his online persona of The Schmo, interviewed former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion and MMA veteran Jake Shields in Dallas, Texas. During their conversation, the duo broke down Diaz’s upcoming boxing bout and his fighting future.

As the conversation progressed, Schmo raised the million-dollar question. The host asked Shields, Conor McGregor’s still not in USADA – still not taking the fight with Michale Chandler. Do we think we see the trilogy of Conor McGregor – Nathan Diaz?”

The former Strikeforce champ didn’t shy away from expressing his thoughts on the potential trilogy. He highlighted his personal investment in Diaz’s fights against McGregor, having been in Diaz’s corner for both encounters. Moreover, Shields emphasized the significance of the first two bouts between the duo, almost demanding a third bout on behalf of Diaz’s camp.

He stated that his teammate clearly won the first fight, but many believe he won the second as well. Advocating a trilogy fight between the ‘Stockton Native’ and the Irishman, he added, “I would love to see a third [fight].”

What’s more – he also shed light on the sentiment among fans who eagerly anticipate a third clash between Diaz and McGregor. According to Shields, this matchup resonates with fans as “the fight that everyone wants to see.”

While the prospect of a trilogy fight tantalizes fans, Shields highlighted the monetary aspect that comes into play. Citing Diaz as a superstar, he argued, “They[UFC] have to do a three – it’s a money fight. The thing is – Nate’s a superstar. He needs to get paid. So, it’s up to Dana if he’s gonna write the check to make it happen.”
