Conor McGregor wants to fight at UFC 300. The UFC goes all out and puts on mega-cards on its anniversary shows. Its upcoming three-hundredth PPV event around April ’24 seems likely to get the same treatment. And McGregor wants to be part of it.

Both ‘Notorious’ and UFC CEO Dana White have indicated to the press that UFC 300 might be the event that marks the Irishman’s return to the Octagon after a long period of inactivity. The former two-division champion snapped his leg in his last UFC appearance against Dustin Poirier in 2021. And while there is no clarity yet on the timeline for his return, his manager, Audie Attar, shed light on the topic, including the potential change in opponents from Michael Chandler to Nate Diaz.

Audie Attar was asked about when fans will see Conor McGregor back in the Octagon. The manager stated that while no formal date had been set yet, they were pushing for UFC 300 for the wealthiest MMA star’s comeback. On being probed about whether rival TUF coach Michael Chandler was still the likely opponent, Attar was a bit ambivalent.

Chandler and McGregor were originally slated to face each other at UFC 296 in December 2023. However, the bout was postponed. And the American felt there were other potential fights for McGregor other than Chandler, although the UFC was keen on the latter.

“That’s [Michael Chandler’s] the likely opponent. They did TUF together and the fans want to see that fight. But there’s other opponents too,” he told reporters. Among the other potential opponents Attar named was Nate Diaz. ‘Mac’ and Diaz have fought twice and won one fight each in the UFC so far. And Diaz, who is a free agent right now, spoke about his future plans recently. “I’m trying to get into something hopefully by February. So, whatever it is, it needs to be hardcore,” Diaz said.

Clearly, the Stockton native is indicating he is aiming to fight in February 2024. Although Diaz is very likely to sign with the UFC again, he does have excellent offers from other promotions, too. And if he wants to fight in February, he is likely to make up his mind pretty soon-perhaps within the month. Attar thinks if Diaz re-signs with the UFC, a trilogy against McGregor is very likely in the future.

McGregor manager on a possible Diaz trilogy in 2024

On being asked if there is a chance for a McGregor-Diaz trilogy in 2024, Audie Attar felt that was a possibility, albeit a remote one at this point. He was, however, clear that McGregor wanted that trilogy, and it was likely to materialize at some point in the future, but perhaps not next year.

“Conor definitely wants that trilogy [with Nate Diaz] to happen, and it’s gonna happen. There’s the [Dustin] Poirier rematch as well, a bunch of different fights that exist and are a great possibility… But ultimately… you can’t say its not a possibility. But a lot of things have to happen before its even a conversation,” McGregor’s manager added. Who would you like to see Conor McGregor face on his return?
