As 2023 came͏ to a close, excitement among fans for UFC 300 reached new heights. Just before the year wrapped up, Dana White, the CEO of UFC, revealed some of the initial matchups set to͏ unfold at the landmark event scheduled for April 13 in Las ͏Vegas. UFC 300 still has plenty of room for fights and White wants to make it a star-studded event.

Amidst the commotion, Nate Diaz had come forward with a Tweet that said “UFC 300 would be tight but there’s nobody to fight.” Diaz’s last bout was against Tony Ferguson in September 2022 and since then he has not stepped inside the UFC’s octagon. Diaz has an offer on his cards and that is against Jake Paul in MMA, however seems like Diaz is not keen on facing Paul again.

Surprisingly, Dustin Poirier came forward to accept Diaz’s challenge on X(Formerly Twitter). “Diamond” added a single-word comment to Diaz’s tweet “5 rnds”. With this the speculation about their potential clash came forward, but Poirier’s new statement was cause for celebration for the fans.

However, “Diamond” in his recent statement asserted that the possibility of their fight is negligible. when one of the fans asked whether he was going to face Nate Diaz at UFC 300, Poirier stated “No it ain’t happening.” Nate Diaz reacted with a single laughing emoji on Poirier’s statement on Instagram. There’s a chance he could still be part of the event, but it seems unlikely that Dustin Poirier would be the one facing Nate Diaz in his UFC return at UFC 300.

Dustin Poirier’s most recent bout took place in July, where he faced Justin Gaethje in a highly anticipated rematch of their intense 2018 clash. Poirier emerged victorious in their first encounter with a fourth-round TKO. The headline event of UFC 291 featured their second meeting, this time for the vacant BMF title. Unfortunately for Poirier, Gaethje avenged his previous loss by securing a stunning second-round finish with a remarkable head kick.

Poirier has been away from the octagon since then and is recovering from his loss. The loss was a significant heartbreak for “Diamond.” Despite his 2 losses in his last 3 bouts, Poirier is still sitting at #3 in the lightweight division rankings and must be requiring 2-3 more wins to gain another title shot. The Louisiana native has been looking for opponents, however, it feels as if it is tough for the fighter to get a fight?
