What happens when a Stockton legend clashes with Team Khabib? Sparks fly, bottles get thrown, and social media erupts. Nate Diaz, no stranger to chaos, found himself in the middle of yet another controversy, this time involving UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev and his team. The drama unfolded backstage before UFC 310 and has since spilled into the digital world, leaving fans with plenty to say!

In a recent post shared on his Instagram account, Diaz stated, “WTH goin on I didn’t even know Islam was there I don’t even know which one he is I was just there to corner my boy and these ewalks were looking for thru a bottle at me looking for clout wtf did I do”

Diaz’s “boy”, Kron Gracie was fighting that night and Diaz was present in his corner. While the security intervened before the situation could escalate, bottles went flying like artillery before both sides calmed down. Amidst the brewing storm, Islam Makhachev had also clarified during a conversation with Demetrious Johnson, “You know what’s interesting, maybe five, six months ago, I meet Diaz in the elevator in the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, he goes to cross to me and says, ‘Respect, respect, respect,’ and just walked. But what changed now? When a lot of cameras come, they always people change.”

Well, Diaz had a different opinion on Makhachev’s story. What was it? In his Instagram post, Diaz further stated, “And I never saw this guy in an elevator ewtf i thought religious people didn’t lie wtf is happening”. But he wasn’t done just yet! Taking aim at Khabib Nurmagomedov, the Stockton native fired off by stating, “And wtf happened to champ all you had to do was say yes champ”.  The fans also chimed in with their thoughts on the ‘feud’ brewing between the two camps and here’s a look at what the MMA sphere had to say.

Nate Diaz’s social media “slap” against Islam Makhachev and Team Khabib sends fans into a frenzy

The Instagram “slap” by Nate Diaz reverberated through the online community as some fans took his side in the comments. According to UFC flyweight Brandon Royval, who got caught in the crossfire, Diaz did not initiate the altercation. In a conversation with MMA Fighting, Royval revealed, “That’s another thing people didn’t see. Diaz did not throw that first water bottle. The first water bottle was thrown at him. He was walking, that water bottle zoomed past, almost f**king took me out”

“A slap to Khabib’s team”

While Diaz became a free agent in 2022, fans also claimed that the Stockton legend should have been a champion in the UFC. The reason why he never won the gold according to them? A lack of time! Diaz challenged for the UFC lightweight title against Benson Henderson back in 2012 but came up short as he lost a unanimous decision. Although he never challenged for the 170 lbs. title, in his fight against future champ, Leon Edwards at UFC 263, Diaz rocked Edwards in the final minute of the bout but instead of capitalizing began taunting him!

“Nate is the real 155 and 170 champ, he never lost just run out of time”

Others also pointed out that Diaz wouldn’t have backed down from a clash with Islam Makhachev and his team. So who threw the first bottle? According to Royval, “It was the flyweight Russian kid (Tagir Ulanbekov), he was one who threw the first water bottle.”

“That’s what I thought.. Nate wouldn’t back down from a fight”

The jab at Khabib Nurmagomedov didn’t escape the fan’s notice either. The undefeated former UFC champion was recently escorted from a plane after a disagreement with a flight attendant. In a statement on social media, ‘The Eagle’ explained, “[The lady who asked me] questions was very rude from the very beginning, even though I speak very decent English and can understand everything and agreed to assist, she still insists on removing me from my seat.”

“Not the emergency seat”

Others were more interested in taking hilarious shots at the entire situation instead! But what does Islam Makhachev have to say about the supposed ‘beef’? In his conversation with ‘Mighty Mouse’, the lightweight champion confessed, “We don’t have something, I don’t know. If I have something with him, I can fix it in the Wynn Hotel, but he come to me, like two meters, and said, ‘Respect, respect,’ and then he go.”
