What does a Justin Gaethje training session look like? The UFC lightweight powerhouse is known for his violent fighting style, explosive strikes, and a reputation for going toe-to-toe in the Octagon. But in a recent training video, Gaethje left fans with their jaws on the floor, not from his brutal power, but from the way he worked the heavy bag.

The video was shared on X by ‘Home of Fight’ with the caption, “Justin Gaethje’s bag work looks absolutely exhausting. “As the lightweight went to town on the bag with coach Trevor Wittman, it wasn’t his usual thunderous punches that grabbed attention. Rather, it was a unique sequence of drills that left the fans scratching their head and later, in stitches!

‘The Highlight’ started with a series of rapid taps on the bag with both hands, without pausing to take a break. Next up was a series of hard shots with both hands while Wittman kept encouraging Gaethje to not let up the pace.

Finally, combination work that involves head movement before jumping on the stationary bike, and that’s when the video cuts off.

On March 8, Gaethje will face Dan Hooker in a five-round lightweight showdown at UFC 313. This fight promises to deliver maximum violence, as both fighters have a reputation for brutal exchanges. Needless to say, the training video quickly went viral, sparking a series of hilarious fan reactions. Let’s take a look at what the MMA world had to say!

Watching Justin Gaethje’s combination of punches and body movement, some fans were left wondering if this was a joke. It didn’t quite resemble the man known as ‘The Highlight’ we’ve come to know and love. After all, with a 75% KO/TKO percentage in his UFC career, the drills must’ve something to offer, right?

“Bro… what the f**k is this”

The jabs kept coming as this fan seemed to think that ‘The Highlights’ light taps on the bag resembled the kind of overzealous energy toddlers unleash every morning on their parents’ faces!

“My toddler does the same workout on my sleeping face every morning”

That’s why one fan jumped in to defend Gaethje. According to their analysis, the drills likely had a purpose, focusing on conditioning and muscle endurance. Qualities that are necessary to throw bombs for 5 rounds inside the Octagon. In an interview on the Ariel Helwani Show, ‘The Highlight’s upcoming opponent, Dan Hooker proclaimed, “I just think the UFC wants to see someone die, I think they just want to finish it. They want this fight for the fans, as well. They want to see someone go down. They want to see blood. They want to see Rounds 4 and 5.”

“First drill is to train his fast twitch muscle fibers. The second is to condition his shoulders and cardio. Each have their place.”

One fan even compared UFC middleweight Sean Strickland, known for his unorthodox and often confusing fighting style. And now Gaethje was seemingly channeling that same energy. Was this Gaethje trying to play mind games, or is there a method to the madness as claimed above?

“Doing his best Sean Strickland impression at the start.”

Some took the opportunity to put an even more creative spin on Justin Gaethje’s bag work, imagining him as a smooth-talking door-to-door salesman. The quirky movement and lack of power in the punches made it look like Gaethje could easily sell you something with that same effort being used to knock on doors!

“He’d be great at door to door sales”

In conclusion, while fans chuckle at Justin Gaethje’s training antics, there’s no doubt that the fighter is preparing for a battle of epic proportions. ‘The Hangman’ is ready for war and has been on a tear, with three straight wins in his last fights. Maybe Gaethje’s “toddler” workout on the heavy bag isn’t a sign of weakness. Maybe it’s a calculated move to throw off his opponents and the fans! What do you think?
