The Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier rivalry is one of the most bitter ones in MMA history. It started in 2014 at UFC 178. The war of words between the two made the contest a spicy affair. Jon Jones ultimately won the fight by unanimous decision, but the bad blood between the two fighters only intensified. The rematch between Jones and Cormier took place at UFC 214 in 2017. Jones tested positive for PEDs in an out-of-competition drug test and the fight was overturned to a no-contest. Cormier was then reinstated as the UFC light heavyweight champion. While Jones established his dominance in the trilogy fights with a knock-out, Daniel Cormier subsequently retired from MMA but Jones is still going strong.

At UFC 285 the world saw what Jones was capable of. Jon Jones returned from a three-year hiatus to submit #1 Heavyweight division contender Ciryl Gane in the very first round. While the MMA world was excited to see the amazing comeback, Jon Jones wasn’t too happy with Daniel Cormier’s reaction to the fight on commentary. After the fight, he even threw a jibe at Cormier, saying he could have at least smiled. Daniel Cormier has now responded.

In a recent talk with former champion Henry Cejudo, Daniel Cormier explained what transpired during Jon Jones’ winning moments against Gane. He said, he had no bad feelings for Jones and that his reaction was similar to Joe Rogan’s. Rogan and Daniel Cormier were both present as play-by-play commentators for UFC 285.

Talking about the winning moments and Jon Jones’s comments after the fight Cormier said, Did you see what happened after the fight he was like I wasn’t mad though like everybody’s acting like I was mad that he won I was literally, so when he was finishing Cyril his back was to me yeah and my reaction was the same reaction as Rogan but because of my history it’s like oh this he’s mad and then he says dude couldn’t even force a smile that tells you he’s ready but he’s not quite ready”.

Jon Jones had poked DC after his UFC 285 win

Jon Jones had mentioned that he had nothing but love for Daniel Cormier, but things changed fast. Soon after his UFC 285 win, Jones tweeted, “My man couldn’t even pretend to smile, it was pretty funny,” Daniel Cormier was trolled by certain sections of fans too for carrying the bitterness for Jon Jones from their fighting days. After DC cleared the air, it seems that things might not be as bitter between the two as fans have thought them to be.

Overall, the Jones-Cormier rivalry has been one of the most intense and high-profile in the history of MMA, and has generated a great deal of interest and controversy in the sport.
