A variety of trends and challenges have become popular on social media, but none of them quite achieved the popularity the ALS ice bucket challenge received in the summer of 2014. While many athletes did the challenge, former UFC 135-pound women’s champion Ronda Rousey joined the list too. After completing the challenge, Rousey challenged some big names in combat sports and Hollywood.

Ronda Rousey was initially challenged by UFC President Dana White to complete the ALS Ice bucket challenge. Before Rousey could do her challenge, the fighter was asked whom would she like to challenge.
Rousey had interesting names on her mind. The former 135-pound champion called out some elites. She said, “My list is Sylvester Stallone, Dwayne Johnson, and Gina Carano.” Rousey then completed her challenge and looked comfortable in doing the same.
The year 2014 was indeed very special for Rousey. The Olympic bronze medalist was at the top of her game.
The decline of Ronda Rousey
At one point, women’s MMA had become synonymous with Ronda Rousey. The 135-pound fighter was credited for opening the doors for many female MMA fighters around the world. Having conducted her business in other promotions, Ronda Rousey was signed to the UFC in 2012 and was declared to be the first 135-pound UFC women’s champion.
Initially, she enjoyed a lot of success. Rousey was so dominant that many people felt it wouldn’t be possible for anyone to dethrone her. Since being crowned champion, Rousey had made 6 successful title defenses.
However, things went haywire when Rousey squared off against elite striker Holly Holm. At UFC 193, Holm completely outclassed Rousey on the feet. While the Olympic medalist tried to initiate the clinch, she was unsuccessful in doing so. Eventually, Holm knocked out Rousey in round 2.

After this loss, MMA fans did not see Rousey in the cage for over a year. However, at UFC 207, she returned to face Amanda Nunes. While Rousey and her fans expected a successful outing, the night ended quickly for Rousey. Nunes stopped Rousey within 48 seconds of Round 1.
Since her loss against Nunes, Rousey has never returned to the octagon. The fighter instead transitioned to pro wrestling, appeared in movies, and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.
