Comedian, podcast host, and UFC color commentator Joe Rogan now resides in Austin, Texas, having previously lived in California. During a recent interview, the 55-year-old came clean about the reason behind his decision to move to the South Central region of the United States.
Since Joe Rogan moved to Austin, he opened up his own comedy club, called the ‘Comedy Mothership’. Moreover, he also opened a studio to film the episodes of his million-dollar podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’. Let us take a look at why the famous podcaster decided to move states.
Moving to Texas was the best decision Joe Rogan ever made

The 55-year-old recently made an appearance in an interview on YouTube. He mentioned that there was something special about the state of Texas which resonated with him. The freedom within the state and the people made him fall in love with Texas. He said, “Texas always spoke to me. There’s something about the freedom of this place and… the people are so f***ing cool here.”
In addition to that, Joe Rogan also believes it was the best decision of his entire life because he claims that Texas is better than any other place in more ways than one. He added, “It’s so much better in every way. It’s like the best move I ever made in my life was coming here.”
JRE host reveals the contrasting difference between California and Texas
Joe Rogan mentioned that he first came to Texas during the Covid-19 pandemic. He and his family were initially hoping to get a vacation house and spend some time in the state. Joe Rogan was also doubtful about the possibility of him living in Texas. He said, “We came here in May 2020. originally we were kinda looking at this place as maybe we’ll get a vacation house or something like that and come spend some time in Austin.” Rogan added, “I didn’t know if I would be able to live here.”

Due to the fact that they came during the pandemic, away from the strict rules laid down by the authorities in California, his kids seem to love the place. “My kids loved it because it was in the middle of the pandemic,” said the 55-year-old. He also that people in California had to wear masks, and that was something he wasn’t a fan of. Rogan added, “In California, everybody had to wear a mask, even outside. It was so f***ing stupid.” However, when he moved to Texas, things were visibly different and most people didn’t care about the pandemic and were partying to the fullest. The JRE host said, “We went to Texas and no one had a mask on and everyone’s just out there partying… So that was like step one. It was like the day we’re into it.”
Rogan’s wife was reluctant to move to Austin
When Joe Rogan thought about permanently shifting to the city of Austin, his wife didn’t seem to entertain that idea. She thought about going back to California after testing the waters in Texas. Rogan said, “My wife was a little reluctant at first but eventually she was like, ‘Okay, we’ll try it, we’ll try it for a little while.'”

However, the 55-year-old predicted correctly about the situation getting worse back in California and that was the reason why he permanently switched residence to Austin. “I was right and LA fell further and further apart and now you go back there, it’s a f***ing disaster,” said Rogan.

Joe Rogan didn’t want any drastic change. he decided to stay in a city that closely resembled the city of Los Angeles, which is Austin. Moreover, he officially announced settling in Texas in a social media post he shared on his Instagram handle.
