Dana White has no sympathy for Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and his recent injury! The UFC boss and the former fighter were involved in a ‘challenge’ online when Cerrone called out White’s bull, ‘Twisted Steel’ for a ride at the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) event.

According to a video posted by White on X, “So Cowboy Cerrone, I accept your challenge. I will donate $50,000 to the charity of your choice for you to ride him. If you last eight seconds, I will give you $100,000.” However, Cerrone suffered a torn bicep that required surgery while practicing for the challenge. But according to the UFC boss, it’s a good thing that Cerrone is out of the event as he claimed he was “excited” to hear that the former fighter had been injured. And so, let’s explore why he felt that way!

The challenge between Dana White and Donald Cerrone was scheduled to take place at the PBR ‘Unleash The Beast’ event on May 18 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. But ‘Cowboy’, who had been hard at work practicing, announced that he would be unable to compete in the event, as he had suffered a massive injury by tearing his bicep off the bone during a practice ride on another bull.

As such, during the recent UFC St. Louis post-fight press conference, the UFC head honcho was asked if he was “disappointed” to hear the news of Cerrone’s injury. But the UFC boss, humorously responded by stating, “Not at all, I was actually very excited when he tore his bicep because my bull will murder him, okay? It was insane in the first place, Cowboy’s too old to be doing that sh*t, and now I think he knows he’s too old to be doing it, that was a higher power telling him, you know, you shouldn’t be riding PBR…”

But despite his jabs at the former fighter, Cerrone also shared that White was responsible for connecting him with a surgeon who was an expert in such injuries. In a post on social media, Cerrone revealed, “…@danawhite hooked me up with one of the best surgeons for a full bicep tear and give it six-eight weeks and with help from @transcendHrt and I’ll be back at it”

Ultimately, the interaction between the two indicates the light-hearted camaraderie between White and Cerrone and despite the lack of ‘sympathy’, the UFC boss’s help in setting up ‘Cowboy’ with an expert surgeon highlights their unique relationship. However, the story of how Dana White got involved in the bull riding scene deserves a mention as the UFC head honcho came very close to finding out first-hand why you don’t mess around with bulls!

White’s “craziest three seconds” of his life led to his interest in bullriding

While answering questions at the post-fight press conference for a Dana White Contender Series event in 2023, the UFC boss revealed that he got into the ‘bull business’ due to an episode of his reality show, ‘Lookin for a Fight’ that he did in 2016.

White revealed, “…the dumbest thing I’ve ever done, riding a bull. But after I did it, I kinda got into it, We went out on this whole ranch, this guy Dennis Davis Bucking Bulls, his ranch. And I said, ‘I wanna get into this, I’ll buy a bull.’ So, I bought a bull.”

However, things could have gone south for him as White was filmed riding a bull for the episode as well. He revealed, “That was the first time I felt legit fear. I was scared” and dubbed the experience, “…the fastest, scariest, craziest three seconds you will ever have in your life.”

In essence, White’s journey from fearing for his life to eventually owning bucking bulls himself exemplifies his entrepreneurial spirit and penchant for adventure. And with Cerrone now out on the sidelines while he recovers from his injury, fans will have to wait to see if the former fighter will still be eager to take on the challenge of facing White’s prized bull, ‘Twisted Steel’, in the future!
