He was born in a small town called Buynaksk, in Russia and after the tragic passing of his mother, the 12-year-old Mokaev and his father made a journey to England. They were in a refugee camp before settling in Wigan and finally, his life looked a little bright. In 2013, he rekindled his passion for combat sports and joined the Manchester Wrestling Club. He had not only got a degree in business but also did all kinds of odd jobs before breaking into UFC. The Dagestani trains out of the KHK MMA Team in Bahrain, and he found his love in the same place.

He got married to Khava Eldarbekova who is a medical practitioner and even though they have a strong bond, they faced trouble when they wanted to visit the UK again. In February 2021, they appealed for a visa to visit Mokaev’s father in the UK. However, the visa was denied and then they tried again for a shorter-term visa which was denied again by the Home Office as the authorities cited £4,884 in her account as a reason to believe that she may not leave the country.

Even through all the troubles they never left each other’s side. The six-time British wrestling champion even said that the trouble his wife was going through was affecting his performance in the matches in 2021. They still do not have a child together but the fighter plans to retire early and concentrate on other ventures. His plan of having a finite fighting career is rooted in his religious beliefs and craving for family time.
