‘Mr Can’t Make Weight’ Khamzat Chimaev Dominating ‘Guy Half His Size’ Draws Heavy Criticism From UFC Fans

Khamzat Chimaev seems to have earned the ire of fans yet again. The brash 28-year-old was heavily criticized for his goof up during UFC 279 which saw him miss weight and eventually forced the UFC to shuffle the card in a first-of-its-kind incident. Now, although for no fault of his, fans have attacked the undefeated Swede again.

This time around, Chimaev was subject to scathing comments on a recent clip of his grappling with a training partner. The video which showed him training with a smaller guy was posted on Instagram by the popular page MMA Uncensored.

The clip, which also had the text “Khamzat Strong Grappling” on it, saw fans call out the 28-year-old for fooling around with a much lighter partner.

The clip, most probably taken in the Allstars center in Sweden, showed Chimaev and his partner trying to grab under hooks in what looked like a pummeling session. Although there is necessarily nothing wrong with training with a smaller opponent, fans seemed to find fault with Chimaev for doing that. Unfortunately, receiving hate on social media is something that has become a part of a successful athlete and Chimaev has been no exception. Here are some of the top comments that mocked the 28-year-old for his actions.

One of the first comments pointed out how the UFC welterweight contender was sparring with someone who looked like a featherweight.

“You mean…a middleweight has strong grappling against a featherweight?”

A majority of the comments were just fans pointing out the enormous size difference.

“Anyone got a link to him wrestling someone his size?”

“With a guy half his size.”

“why he Always wrestle against featherweight?”

“Pushing around someone 35lbs lighter than him”

“Dude needs to fight bigger guys.”

One comment made a reference to UFC 279 and the weight fiasco.

“Mr Can’t Make Weight! Who’s that he’s baby brother??”

Another individual left a pretty funny reaction as well.

“Hazmat chimney is grappling my cousin Ezekiel in this video. Zeke is 1-4 in the rural fight league. Great training.”

One specific fan surprisingly commended Chimaev on his size and even hoped for a fight with Colby Covington to go through.

“Borz looking big. Hope the Colby fight gets booked soon.”

What’s next in line for Khamzat Chimaev?

Now, as one fan pointed out, a rumored fight with Colby Covington is surely something that would leave the MMA world buzzing. Even Daniel Cormier had suggested a few names for ‘Borz’ and Covington was one of the leading names put forward by the former olympian. But considering Chimaev’s weight issues at Welterweight, it won’t be a surprise if he moved up to 185 pounds. As for rumors, there have been multiple names that have been proposed as an opponent for the 12-0 fighter. The Russian born has called out Middleweight champ Alex Pereira, who he clearly believes is a lesser fighter than him.

Chimaev clearly doesn’t have a lack of opponents. But it all comes down to who is willing to face up to the 28-year-old.
