Longtime UFC color commentator Joe Rogan believes there’s more to Alex Pereira‘s fighting style than just his sheer power. Sporting an imposing physique, the light heavyweight champion has become a true knockout artist as fans expect fireworks from the Brazilian from the very first round. Opponents just can’t seem to comprehend his technique, and Rogan believes that ‘Poatan’s fighting style is just “weird.”
During a recent ‘JRE MMA Show’, Alex Pereira’s third title defense against Khalil Rountree took center stage as Joe Rogan pointed out the challenger’s powerful strikes. He believes the 34-year-old has a chance to win, but he could have problems trying to decode ‘Poatan’s fighting style, which Rogan has compared to a serpent.

“He’s got that crazy style, man. That style, that snake-like style that he has, and the hands [are] down,” the JRE host stated when he visualized Alex Pereira’s fighting style. Also, the 57-year-old has come across several sparring footages of Alex Pereira, where he’s not just taking on MMA fighters, but also taking on actual professional boxers with great pedigree. For starters, the Brazilian has recently shown interest in putting on bigger gloves and getting inside the boxing ring. However, it seems like ranked pro boxers are already finding it hard to get through his fighting, and Rogan claims it’s because Pereira’s style is very unorthodox.
“You see him sparring, right? You’ve seen some of those videos of his sparring like really good boxers, man… That style is hard to handle because it’s so weird,” Joe Rogan further stated. Alex Pereira also shocked the JRE host when he took on an absolute heavyweight of a boxer recently and handled him pretty well in sparring. Alex Pereira may not have realized how big of an international MMA star he’s become when he received a warm reception from the Australian folks during his recent visit down under.
Alex Pereira enjoyed his time there visiting places, and making a podcast appearance, but it was also a time when he stepped in for Conor McGregor at FUC 303 and had less than three weeks to prepare. So what does he do? Well, he decided to train in Australia, hitting up 22-1 boxer, Demsey McKean. Although, fans were concerned about ‘Poatan’, get gave the boxer a run for his money. “That one boxer that he was training with… he’s a big heavyweight [and] very skillful, but everything was like real traditional. And then, you see Pereira moving at you like a Cobra. Like it’s so hard to figure out what the f— he’s doing,” Rogan added.
However, Alex Pereira isn’t counting out Khalil Pereira even though Joe Rogan believes his fighting style could see him cross the line against the challenger. Just like his opponent, ‘Poatan’ also believes that his next title fight is indeed one “for the fans.”

‘Poatan’ excited to fight Rountree
Fans and pundits have weighed in on the situation as Khalil Rountree emerged to be the surprising title contender to Alex Pereira’s gold. But that’s not really a big deal for the champion, who’s stepped up multiple times in his UFC run. He believes fans will love the striker vs striker clash in October when they get inside the Octagon. “Well, that probably took everybody by surprise, but I think he’s gonna be a very exciting fight for the fans,” he told ‘TNT Sports’.

On the other hand, Magomed Ankalaev has also made claims to a title shot, and so have many other members of the UFC fan base. The Makhachkala native has called out Alex Pereira for ducking him, but the champion has refuted that claim in the past, and his recent statement shows that he’s ready for all challenges. “Many people have been talking about Ankalaev, which for me is also not a problem… I think Khalil’s fight will be more exciting,” Pereira added.
