The UFC currently grapples with an antitrust lawsuit that recently received class certification. It alleges that the Las Vegas-based promotion engaged in anti-competitive and monopolistic practices while suppressing fighters’ wages. To make matters worse, it has been granted class certification and fast-tracked. This means the UFC may have to pay out billions of dollars in payouts should it lose.

And one competitor of the UFC, which has been making strategic moves and looking to dethrone the UFC as the premiere mixed martial arts promotion is the PFL, which is reportedly in the final stages of acquiring the MMA promotion Bellator for around $500 million. And UFC superstar Israel Adesanya was asked his opinion on this merger that could completely reshape the MMA landscape. What was Adesanya’s response? Let’s find out.

During a recent discussion, Israel Adesanya received news that the Professional Fighters League (PFL), the UFC competitor that recently signed Francis Ngannou, is in the final stages of buying Bellator. The Kiwi-Nigerian agreed that it would mean that the PFL would get a better roster. He also spoke about it being good for the sport overall.

“That’s good. Competition is good. It’s always good to have like somewhere where others can go and make money as well. And even more money because then they have sponsorships, they have shorts for advertising space, no matter how small the changes or how big the changes, it all adds up,” ‘Izzy’ said on his YouTube channel.

The former middleweight champion felt that competition was good for the MMA scene. This, according to him, gave choice to fighters who can go to UFC competitors if they think they are not being paid properly.

This, incidentally, is exactly what happened in the case of his friend and former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. And a conversation about Ngannou cannot be complete without mentioning his recent controversial bout against Tyson Fury, and ‘The Last Stylebender’ shared his thoughts on the decision.
