The UFC color commentator Joe Rogan has achieved fame and celebrity status beyond the Octagon. His podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience, has an estimated 11 million listeners per episode, and therefore, he commands a long list of followers. The downside of this popular status is that any comment or opinion of him might get blown up in disproportionate proportions.

A similar thing happened a couple of months back when Joe Rogan, on his podcast, made a comment about homeless people in LA.

Rogan’s comment created a huge social media outcry as the UFC commentator got accused of inciting violence.

What had Joe Rogan said about homeless people?

Joe Rogan in episode 152 of podcast 2 Bears, 1 Cave with Tom Segura talked about various topics like Mark Zuckerberg going on JRE, Michael Jordan’s unsellable homes, Francis Ngannou, and food-based Instagram profiles.

On similar notes, the duo talked about the censoring of content on social media and how the process worked.

Rogan followed up with a hot take and said, “They’re [people working in tech companies] super woke and they think that people like DeStefano or people like you or me are a real problem. You know people who joke around about stuff. This is a real problem.”

Segura then reminded Rogan of the recent controversy they both were involved in. He said, “Then news outlets did, they took the, it was end quote, it was like he says this Rogan says this Tom says I like your idea- these guys are endorsing violence against home...”

Tom further added, “They go- and it happened. A homeless person was killed, and this is what these guys are. This is what these guys are.”

The UFC Color Commentator looked clueless and clarified, “Under fire for joke intended as a political jab. I wasn’t aware I was under fire. I didn’t pay attention, didn’t affect me at all.”

However, he mentioned, “But we should just explain what we actually said. What I actually, we’re actually saying is that if you shot them, no one would care because they don’t do anything about violence. That’s what we’re saying.”

He added, “We’re not saying you should shoot the homeless people. We were saying like you can’t touch their stuff.”

In episode #1844 JRE, Joe commented, “But they wouldn’t arrest you if you shot somebody. Maybe you should just go shoot the homeless people.”

Segura, following the tone of the conversation, seconded and replied: “I like your ideas.

Rogan’s comments on the media

The duo shifted the conversation to the role of media in these controversies and how they cultivate these controversies further.

Joe Rogan emphasized, “But all they do is get more people to listen. Like they don’t understand that they work for you when they do stuff like that. That’s really advertising, by the way.”

Following this, Segura said, “They do it to you so much and all that happens to you is your audience grows and grows and grows. And they’re still like ‘new article we got them’ and the f*****g new numbers come out and it’s like there are 20 million listeners. It’s like how are you not figuring this out yet.”

Rogan concluded, “They’re in a trap because the way they get clicks is to talk about someone that’s controversial and or popular. They do that and they just make you more controversial and more popular.”
