Conor McGregor's jibe at Topuria—just banter or crossing the line with his remarks?

Conor McGregor is never out of the limelight even if he is away from the octagon. This time he is in the spotlight for the wrong reason though. ‘The Notorious’ was recently present at BKFC’s card in Marbella over the weekend after his recent investment in the promotion. Here, ‘The Notorious One’ decided to make use of his stellar mic skills and took shots at the featherweight king Ilia Topuria.

McGregor took a slightly racist jibe and said that he was more Spanish than ‘El Matador’ saying, “Ilia Topuria is not Spanish; I’m more Spanish than him.” However, the featherweight star was not subdued and recently replied to the jibe on Ariel Helwani’s show by dragging former UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou into the mix.

Championship Rounds posted that specific clip on X, where Topuria retaliated to what McGregor said. According to the post, “Ilia Topuria responds to Conor McGregor saying he’s more Spanish than him: “When I see myself in the mirror, below my waist, I also think sometimes I’m more African than Francis Ngannou.”

Notably, McGregor and Topuria have been taking jibes back and forth on social media for quite some time ever since Topuria called McGregor out for a fight. But this time things escalated as ‘The Notorious’ sent a scathing message to Topuria while talking to Jamal Niaz.“F*** him, f*** him. This isn’t his home country,” McGregor announced.

He further added, “This is my home country, baby! Marvilla, Spain, where is he at? This is not his home country, he knows where his home country is, and it’s not España…So good luck Max Holloway. F*** him up!” Interestingly, McGregor called out ‘El Matador’ and invited him for a bare-knuckle fight in Marbella, on the 12th of October. To this Topuria stated, “McChicken. On the 12th, he’ll be at an event in Spain while I’m on the frontlines, not as a spectator. I’ll be headlining an event. He’s been missing out on big time.”

Topuria is set to face Max Holloway in his first UFC featherweight title defense at UFC 308, while McGregor is yet to find a comeback opponent after his withdrawal from UFC 303 due to an injury. Yet, even though Topuria and McGregor are spitting fire against each other, they ganged up against Belal Muhammad to give him a taste of their trash-talking.

Conor McGregor and Ilia Topuria insult Belal Muhammad

The welterweight champion found himself fending off not one, but two of the biggest trash-talkers in the promotion; featherweight king Ilia Topuria and former double champ Conor McGregor. This latest scuffle started after it was announced, that Belal Muhammad would fight undefeated trailblazer Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 this December. The heated exchange started when ‘El Matador’ supported 18-0 Rakhmonov to beat Muhammad and he called ‘Remember the Name’ a ‘fake champion’

Muhammad was not silent and according to Bloody Elbow, he said, “Didn’t this dork just buy a fake BMF belt to pose with… He’s starting to become the Georgian version of Colby Covington.” Some pretty low-blow insults were exchanged with Topuria calling Muhammad a “cro**h sniffer” hinting at the wrestler’s game plan of aiming at his opponent’s cro**h for takedowns.

Finally, McGregor joined the brawl and wrote in a now-deleted X post saying, “Love to crush my left hook into Belal’s temple and take down the triple crown. I’d do it easily, and fast! I’d cave his skull heavy! The hurdles I face getting back to the octagon are just harrowing. I am so sad over my June 29 fight cancelation…To think this bum is now a UFC champion with zero knockdowns on his resume or whatever is so bad. The UFC’s most abysmal zero revenue generating fight in modern history.”

However, Topuria and McGregor’s initial team-up against Muhammad does not mean their feud is over. On top of that, the title-holder duo are set to make comebacks soon with Topuria returning at UFC 308. While Muhammad is set to fight Rakhmonov in the main event of UFC 310.
