UFC commentator Joe Rogan plays different roles when it comes to his profession. In the MMA world, Rogan is a UFC commentator with rich technical knowledge about the sport. Other than commentating, something that Rogan holds close to his heart is stand-up comedies. Rogan became a comedian at the age of 21. Back then, the former ‘Fear Factor’ host was happy about being able to make money by being a comedian. However, stand-up comedy was not an easy thing for Rogan.
Through his highly successful podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, the UFC commentator opens up about his life experiences. Recently, the UFC commentator chose to disclose the struggles he faced as a comedian in his early twenties. It took Rogan years of hard work to reach where he was today. Now, he has a net worth of $120 million. His club, ‘Comedy Mothership’, is an example of his love for stand-up comedy. Rogan’s ‘Comedy Mothership’ is a club for canceled comedians to joke without fear of cancel culture. However, he often remembers a time when he was a comedian who was happy about making money doing what he loved the most.

In the 2001 episode of JRE, Rogan sat with Gabriel Iglesias. Being stand-up comedians, Iglesias and Rogan had so much in common. During the conversation, Rogan mentioned his struggles as a young comedian. He said, “It’s a school where no one is going to give you a lesson plan. You got to do it all yourself and you have to learn from other people. I did the same thing in Boston. Mostly we get road gigs because those who wants that you know they are paid to drive two hours to some 40 minutes phenom, a bunch of crazy people“

The commentator further added, “Oh my god, it was amazing. You are making money out of doing comedy was amazing and you are learning how to do it. You are learning how to do it the hard way. In restaurants, in bars, in pubs, in just any outdoor venues.” Talking further on the topic, Rogan added how difficult it was to make money as a stand-up comic back in the day, as there was no social media. He added, “But honestly, that’s great, that they give you this chance for. First of all know you really want it because if you are really gonna grind it, every night, going on all these sh*tty places for no money. For years, for years, you are not making any money. You got to stay committed to doing that.“

Rogan admits that it was a difficult phase for him as he was struggling with the audience. According to him, when he started doing comedy, he earned very little from the profession. It took years for Rogan to become a stand-up comic. However, the 55-year-old focuses on the brighter side of things. Rogan appreciates how he got to learn a lot about stand-up comedy. Even after all these years, Rogan still holds stand-up comedy close to his heart.
