Robert Whittaker is weighing in all his options ahead of his fight against Dricus du Plessis. Both middleweights clash at UFC 290 on July 8, 2023, at the T-Mobile Arena facility in Paradise, Nevada. The fight with title implications will determine the dynamics of the 185 lbs division. While the winner of the bout would have claimed the number 1 contender spot, it seems the opportunity is up for grabs only for the South African fighter. Israel Adesanya, who defeated ‘The Reaper’ on the previous two occasions, is not swayed by the idea of a trilogy fight. Therefore, the options for the Australian fighter are limited and one of them is following Alex Pereira to the 205 lbs.

‘Poatan’, after suffering a defeat at the hands of ‘The Last Stylebender’, decided to move up. Further, his better-suited frame and his struggles with weight-cutting nudged him. On the other hand, ‘Bobby Knuckles’ enjoys fighting at middleweight, but with the Nigerian-Kiwi fighter at the top, can he reignite his career with a switch to another division?

The 32-year-old fighter, who has a few years left in the tank, appeared on Submission Radio. He talked about his upcoming fight and the future implication of it. When asked about the possibility of moving at 205 lbs, the former UFC champion didn’t refuse to entertain the idea. However, he was glad to stick with middleweight as he was “pretty good” in the division.

He said, “It’s hard to say because they’re big dudes and tall. [I] don’t like fighting tall guys. But maybe, maybe. I’m pretty good at middleweight. I make the weight quite easily and yeah, I’m good at middleweight.”

Following this, the 24-6 record holder had a bold prediction of his opponent ahead of their bout.

Whittaker predicts a dog fight at UFC 290

The #1 ranked middleweight fighter believed a “dog fight” to go down at UFC 290. Besides, he revealed he wants to put away du Plessis, and he foresees a win by the finish.

He stated, “It’s going to be a dogfight. But I’m looking to put him away. I want to put him away and not that I haven’t tried with everybody else, but like I wanted to get a finish.”
