Remember how Sean Strickland lost to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297? Well, it has been almost a year since that fight and so, Strickland wants an opportunity to redeem his loss. On cue, as Dana White and Co. wrapped up the final PPV of the year, fans were excited to hear that Strickland versus DDP has been booked for UFC 312, which will take place on February 8, 2025.
Just like fans, Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier are excited about this rematch. After all, DDP won UFC 297 via a split decision, and that left viewers hungry for more. Here is what Rogan said about the upcoming fight:
“So close [their last fight’s outcome]. Dricus du Plessis has shocked the world. I mean not just in winning the title from Sean but the way he beat Israel Adesanya, the way he beat Robert Whittaker. Dricus du Plessis is a monster,” Joe Rogan stated, and Daniel Cormier was in complete agreement.

Responding to Rogan during the UFC 310 broadcast on ESPN MMA, ‘DC’ stated, “Sean Strickland is a monster, too. They had a very close fight last time. These guys are going to battle for the middleweight championship. That’s a fun fight. It was very fun last time. I wonder who’s going to make that adjustment.”
Daniel Cormier further shared, “So, today I saw a picture of Khamzat Chimaev and he had like a gun and he said ‘Where’s Sean Strickland?’ Now it makes sense. Sean got the title fight. Now it makes sense.”
Well, after Khamzat Chimaev‘s win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 308, many fans were rallying for him to get the title fight against DDP, even though Strickland was naturally the next in line for a title shot. Now that it is confirmed that ‘Tarzan’ got the championship fight, Chimaev calling Strickland out makes complete sense. But things don’t end here.
Both fighters have been taking mean shots at each other on X. In one of their latest interactions, ‘Borz’ shared an image of his training with Strickland and captioned it: “It’s ok bro haha,” but the American was having none of it. He started his barrage of insults. He responded, “Lmao sorry I don’t speak Chechnyian w—e… Kadyrov loosen up his leash? You got any bit coin scams to peddle? You hiding from any dictators….”
All said and done, Strickland versus Dricus du Plessis has been confirmed for UFC 312 in Sydney, Australia. But here’s the thing guys: Previously Sean Strickland refused to fight in Australia. On X, he had written, “I’m not fighting in Australia. We’re thinking Vegas in March. I have a love for the Aussies BUT I don’t think you’re government likes me… Which I take as a compliment!! Hate speech isn’t real and i’ll always speak up for my kangaroo homies!!!!!! FRRRRREEEEEDDDOOOOOMM!”
Well, we wonder if the title shot changed his mind! Apart from this exciting matchup, there is more to the event.
Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier are excited about the co-main event of UFC 312!
Tatiana Suarez is arguably the most credible contender for a title shot, given that she is the only woman in the division to remain undefeated ever since she went pro in 2014. After racking up a 7-fight winning streak in her undefeated UFC run, she now has the chance to defeat the champion Zhang Weili.
If she successfully gets the job done, Weili won’t be the first champion she would have defeated. Joe Rogan claims that despite taking considerable time off due to injury, the 11-0 star is an enormous challenge for ‘Magnum’, especially due to her wrestling skills.

“Tatiana Suarez is someone that people have been sleeping on because they forgot how good her wrestling is because she’s had so many injuries; she’s had so many setbacks, but man, she is a talented fighter,” Joe Rogan added.
Zhang Weili may have never gotten her chance to redeem her losses to former 2-time champion Rose Namajunas, who moved on to compete at flyweight. The Chinese star has defeated almost every challenger, and quite convincingly. But even Daniel Cormier agreed with Rogan that she looks beatable against Tatiana Suarez.
“Zhang Weili looks unbeatable against most. I don’t anticipate it’ll look like that against Tatiana Suarez. Suarez has tremendous wrestling, she’s big for the weight class, and when she came back [from injury]… [she] just wipes out one of the best fighters in the division to earn the championship opportunity,” Daniel Cormier told Joe Rogan and Jon Anik.
