“My dad escaped it (Cuba) and he escaped when he was 15 years old. He found two tire tractors, he turned it into a raft, hit the high seas, right. Seven days later, they’re in the Bahamas and they get extradited and he starts his career in America at 15 years old.” he told George Janko on his podcast. “He came with his best friend and his best friend’s Uncle. Only dude here, nobody in his family. So he’s running around wild in Miami and all the projects in Miami, you know. So his story is like a completely different story.”
Masvidal explained how the policies of the Cuban government and low wages compelled his father to migrate to the States. “They came in overnight and told the farmers, hey your cow, it’s our cow now. If you kill it, we’re going to put you in jail. You’re going to raise this cow, we’re gonna pay you money and money is like two dollars a week ” he said.
