Alistair Overeem has had a long career at the UFC where he’s defeated giants and won against odds. Nonetheless, his brilliant career seemingly has run its course. Overeem has fought with multiple organizations over the last decade and more. With the UFC, he fought in the cage for about ten years debuting against none other than Brock Lesnar. That was back in 2011.

After twenty-five years of fighting, Overeem took to his Instagram handle, announcing just why he was stepping away from the octagon. This has prompted a huge wave of support from the entire MMA world and we too are here for it.

Overeem’s explosive entrance into the UFC left fans in awe. As his career progressed, he picked wins after wins and eventually some losses too. Nonetheless, his bouts were always high-octane and much sought after. The entertainment value of the fighter has always been through the roof.

As of now, he holds a professional record of 47-19-0 with one no-contest in his record. Clearly, Overeem has fought a lot in his career. He’s competed in kickboxing tournaments as well as tried his hand at wrestling in the past. Now, the fighter wants to focus on his life and family.

“After 25years of competing, I am officially announcing my retirement from my fight-career…” Overeem announced on his Instagram page. “What a beautiful adventure it has been which took me to incredible places and introduced me to remarkable people. Beyond the traveling, belts and victories, I got to experience what happiness really is about: Family and health. I am gravely looking forward to spend more time with my girls.”

Overeem has three beautiful daughters. He posted multiple pictures of himself with the post. One with three of his belts and one with two of his daughters. The fighter was officially released from his UFC contract in March 2021, ten years after his debut match. And here’s how fans took the news.

Alistair Overeem is a fan favorite for many reasons. He is one of the most remarkable heavyweights of the UFC and for good reason. The powerhouse and his striking abilities have been remarkable from day one. Now that he’s done fighting, fans can’t hold their tears back.
