Everybody knows that the featherweight champion is none other than Alexander Volkanovski. After Charles Oliveira had to pull out of his main event fight against Islam Makhachev, ‘The Great’ stepped in. However, fighting Makhachev means cutting down to his weight class.

Cutting weight is no easy matter, and it had Team Conor McGregor scared for Volkanovski. McGregor is one of the most versatile mixed martial artists who has competed and held titles in multiple weight classes. His expert team was rightfully worried about ‘Volk’.

“Weight cutting is a very, very dangerous element of the sport,” said Tristan Kennedy, McGregor’s nutritionist. “I think it’s becoming more prevalent. It’s hard, and you really need to explain to people the dangers of weight cutting if it’s not done right, you know? And Alex Volk, I know he cut a lot of weight. When I see that, I kind of go, “I know he is a practitioner. I know he is a practitioner.” I don’t know very well, but he is a good practitioner.”

Clearly, the nutritionist has some faith in Volkanovski’s abilities to cut weight, but it’s not without its dangers. Volkanovski will now directly face Makhachev after his weight cut at UFC 294. He’s done it before, but will he be able to do it again? Time will tell. Meanwhile, Chael Sonnen had things to say about the UFC.

Chael Sonnen reveals the mistake made by the UFC

Chael Sonnen is an avid advisor to the UFC; whether or not it’s in an official capacity does not matter. The former fighter took to his YouTube channel recently to voice his concerns about Khamzat Chimaev. He felt like the fighter had done a great job keeping himself active, but the UFC could have done things differently with him.

“I think that somebody should have booked him a little bit more often,” said Sonnen when talking about Chimaev. We will be seeing Chimaev at UFC 294 after he defeated Kevin Holland in his last match. However, Chimaev is a very active fighter, and his not being utilized as often had Sonnen worried that Dana White and Co. just weren’t banking on his value in the promotion.

Dana White talks what’s next for Dricus Du Plessis and Oliveira

Charles Oliveira’s fate seemed pretty much sealed when he had to pull out of his fight against Makhachev. However, Dana White has just recently voiced his thoughts about his next shot back once he’s done healing. White recently spoke to a reporter about the same.

“. . . but obviously, if I have to answer that question, I’d say yeah (he gets the winner). I mean, the kid got a bad beat and got a bad cut literally hours before he was supposed to fly out. But, yeah, I’m not even thinking about that yet.”

And White also had to say some things about Dricus Du Plessis. The fighter had suffered a foot injury that prevented him from entering any fight at UFC 293. White acknowledged the question, but it didn’t look like it was clear who the fighter would face next.

“I don’t know where that puts him.” White said, “It puts him fighting somebody. He’ll end up fighting somebody.” So it’s clear enough that Du Plessis is probably not getting a shot at the title any time soon. Either way, who do you think should get the title shot next?
