Have you missed out on the biggest stories from the MMA world? There’s nothing to worry about because our new edition of the daily roundup is here to solve just that problem. To kick off today’s new compilation, we’ll start with the news of Conor McGregor. Unfortunately, there’s been a worrying update regarding ‘The Notorious’s impending comeback.

Then, we’ll shift our attention to bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley, who surprisingly shared some complimentary words for featherweight champion, Ilia Topuria. Finally, we will end this roundup edition with 205-pound champion Alex Pereira, who appeared to respond to a claim made by one of his former kickboxing rivals.

Conor McGregor may not make his comeback, believes Chael Sonnen, but why?

Analyst and former UFC star Chael Sonnen has dropped yet another scenario where Conor McGregor may decide not to come back again. Why? Michael Chandler caused quite a frenzy on social media with his stunning claim recently. He revealed that an offer to fight Islam Makhachev for the belt, something that he has never even come close to winning, is on the table due to the uncertain nature of him bagging that ‘red panty night’. And Sonnen even mentioned earlier that there is a possibility that Makhachev could defend his title against the former Bellator champion.

“Makhchev has weighed in [on Chandler’s claim] and he didn’t say no. He wasn’t all for it… but he still didn’t say no,” said Chael Sonnen on his YouTube channel. But what does this mean for the Conor McGregor fight? Well, Sonnen believes that by the current look of things, that ship for the UFC may have sailed on June 29th.

“I maintain for you guys from the beginning that if Conor McGregor-Michael Chandler does not happen on June 29th, not only will it not happen, it’s akin to announcing the retirement of McGregor,” Chael Sonnen added. “He will not be back at a future time. Now, that is a prediction… based on evidence.” What do you make of Sonnen’s prediction about the Irishman’s UFC future? But before you speak your mind on that front, let’s dive into the second story of the roundup, involving Sean O’Malley.

Sean O’Malley lauds Ilia Topuria’s skills

Not too long ago, Sean O’Malley called out Ilia Topuria for a champion vs. champion fight following his successful title defense against Marlon Vera. Like many others, he also has a dream to hold two titles just like Conor McGregor did back in 2016. Nevertheless, O’Malley did not fail to mention that he does think that Topuria is a “scary f***ing dude” and as per his recent comments, he thinks ‘El Matador’ is extremely skilled as well.

While sharing a prediction about Ilia Topuria’s probable fight against Max Holloway, claiming that the reigning champion’s going to become the “next Cody Garbrandt,” which appeared to be a jibe, he did mention a few kind words too. “He won his nice little fight, he had his Dominick Cruz performance [and now] he’s about to get pieced up by Max Holloway and go downhill from there. Not really! Ilia’s one of the most skilled guys actually in the UFC,” said Sean O’Malley on YouTube. Now, let’s move over to our final piece of news, involving a back-and-forth between Alex Pereira and former foe from his Glory days in China.

Alex Pereira responds to the last fighter who defeated him in Glory

Alex Pereira just couldn’t stay away from his past in Glory. After feuding with Israel Adesanya, which transcended to the UFC, another former rival has taken aim at the light heavyweight champion. Artem Vakhitov, who was the last person to face Alex Pereira in Glory and defeated the Brazilian, took jibes at ‘Poatan’s fighting style claiming that “he has no defense.” He pointed out the second fight against Adesanya at UFC 287 and how Pereira got knocked out. Moreover, he even suggested a trilogy clash with the UFC champion, confident in his abilities to beat him because he’s done it before. Meanwhile, it did not take much time for Pereira to give Vakhitov a reality check.

Alex Pereira claimed the execs of Glory allowed Vakhitov to win because there were no plans for him to keep the title given that he was moving to the UFC thereafter. “Everyone knows that when they gave you the win, it’s because GLORY knew that was my last fight in the organization, and they didn’t want me to leave with the belt. For you to expose yourself like this, it seems that you’re a bit lost,” Pereira responded on social media (via MMA Fighting). Will another Glory fighter come to the UFC? It remains to be seen what Dana White thinks about this situation.
