Usman Nurmagomedov solidified his status as one of the biggest stars of Team Khabib when he defended his lightweight belt against Alexandr Shabily in a grueling five-round match. The Dagestani successfully defended his belt after the bell rang as the final tally stood at 50-45, 49-46, 49-46. After the victory, Khabib Nurmagomedov stated that his cousin would be the one to succeed him and Islam Makhachev.

“I think Usman is right now one of the best lightweights in the world. I was before, now it’s our brother Islam [Makhachev], and Usman is next. This is dynasty,” said Khabib Nurmagomedov. Camp Khabib has been one of the most disciplined training regimens in the entire UFC and this surely shows in their workout as they now have championship belts from multiple promotions as well.

Regardless, it’s just a matter of time until Usman Nurmagomedov comes to the promotion to dominate the division like his brother but for now, let us move on to the welterweight division.

After the loss, Burns in an interview asserted that he was disappointed with his loss but he will try to compensate for it, “I’m a little bit disappointed, I know I have the grit, and I know that I can fight hard but I didn’t let it go… I felt great this whole freaking week, I feel good in training camp and this morning was great,” said Burns.

The former title challenger stated that he would go back to the gym and study his back-to-back losses to understand where he is lacking. However, will he return or put down his gloves? The answer is only with the fighter. Regardless, let us move on to another news about UFC Vegas.
