The UFC 298 press conference made for some of the most memorable moments in recent memory. Alexander Volkanovski stole the show by putting on an ‘old man’ gimmick. Meanwhile, Ilia Topuria made sure to create a moment for himself as well. The Georgian-Spanish fighter replicated former double champion Conor McGregor‘s infamous act at the end of the presser.

Ilai Topuria seemed to be fed up with Alexander Volkanovski’s antics during the presser and decided to snatch the featherweight championship belt away from the latter. It was all fun and games before that, but after ‘El Matador’ took the title, things got heated up but did not escalate to a problematic level. It remains to be seen how the fight would end up as fans expressed their excitement for the main event this weekend with Topuria revealing his true intentions to the 145-pound champion wanting to achieve his dream.

Ian Garry makes a deal with Geoff Neal

While the Topuria-Volkanosvki drama was the highlight of the press conference, Ian Garry also surprised the UFC fans with a complete U-turn against his UFC 298 opponent, Geoff Neal. The rising Irish star was met with a chorus of boos from the crowd as soon as he started to talk on the microphone. However, Garry did not seem to be bothered by the negative reactions and claimed that he would silence them this weekend.

Contrary to how he used to approach his opponents before a fight with verbal warfare, Ian Garry seems to have changed his mind about his approach against Geoff Neal. He mentioned that he was willing to shake hands with the 8th-ranked welterweight if Neal decides to reciprocate him.

“I’ll shake hands with any man that’s willing to stand there in the Octagon with me. That’s simple as (that). . . Geoff, I’ll shake your hand if you’re willing to shake mine,” said Ian Garry. It was a different side to the Irish star that fans witnessed during the press conference as we wait to see how he fares against the veteran at UFC 298.

Merab Dvalishvili mocks Henry Cejudo

Former double champion Henry Cejudo may be American but has his roots in Mexico. He was born to Mexican immigrants, leading him to represent the United States of America as an athlete. However, Merab Dvalishvili had other plans. The Georgian national decided to take a jibe at Cejudo and announced that he intended to represent the nation of Mexico at UFC 298.

If that wasn’t enough, Merab Dvalishvili pulled out a Mexican flag and claimed that he wanted to make the people of that country proud. “Hey, I’m gonna make Mexican people happy because Mexican people need to represent [the] Mexican flag… I’m going to represent Mexico on February 17th,” said Merab Dvalishvili. It will be interesting to see how ‘The Machine’s decision to represent Mexico turns out since he already has the Georgian flag tattooed on his chest.
