The heated rivalry may have been resolved at UFC 305 because we saw Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya embrace each other after the former’s win. That might make people think that maybe the beef was all just a show as they were rivals. However, du Plessis revealed after the fight that enmity between the two was a hundred percent real. “I say this all the time: Myself and Israel, the beef was not fake,” du Plessis stated on the post-fight presser.

There’s no friendship because they’re competitors, after all. However, that does not take away the fact that both of them have a tremendous level of respect for each other. “The fact that we don’t like each other on a personal level was not fake… But the respect that I have for him in this sport and what he’s done, it can’t be denied. Because if you don’t, you’re an idiot,” Dricus du Plessis added. Let us know your thoughts on this statement after you take a look at the next big story.
John McCarthy goes off on Dominick Cruz and Daniel Cormier for their commentary blunder
UFC 305 saw a unique end to the fight between Justin Tafa and Valter Walker. The Australian native found himself caught on a heel hook and he yelled in pain, prompting the referee to end the scrap. The finish was cited as a verbal tap, which is a highly rare occurrence. However, Dominick Cruz and Daniel Cormier didn’t seem to understand the finish of the fight and that has triggered veteran referee John McCarthy. First of all, he claimed that such finishes aren’t new in MMA because he’s stopped fighting due to verbal taps in the past as well.
“If you as the fighter… scream out in pain because you can’t take what’s occurring, I’m going to stop the fight, it’s a verbal tap, you lose,” John McCarthy stated on his YouTube podcast. He claims to have reminded fighters about this particular rule on multiple occasions before their fights. The list of fighters includes Dominick Cruz and Daniel Cormier as well. “The best was like ‘DC’ and Dom [Dominick Cruz] was like, ‘Well, I don’t know.’ I’m like Jesus, how do you not know?… I’ve told Dom that same line myself, I’ve told Dan that same line,” McCarthy added. Do you think that the veteran’s disappointment with Cormier and Cruz is justified? Before you answer that, let us move over to one final piece of noteworthy news.

Brendan Schaub fails in his prediction
Being one of the most dominant champions ever in the UFC, there were many people predicting a win for ‘The Last Stylebender’ and understandably so. Brendan Schaub was among that bunch, whose prediction seemingly backfired. He claimed that Israel Adesanya would “outclass” Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305, which of course, wasn’t the outcome of the fight. As such, Dricus du Plessis made sure to clap back at the former UFC fighter.
Dricus du Plessis took to social media and fired back at not just his prediction but also his MMA career as well. “[Brendan Schaub] great prediction,” tweeted the middleweight champion, twice. “Has been haha JK you have never been.” We are yet to see how Brendan Schaub reacts to these incendiary jabs from the South African sensation, who is apparently gunning for a 205-pound showdown against Alex Pereira.
