Dana White awards 4 fighters at UFC 314
UFC 314 was full of stunning action inside the Octagon as Paddy Pimblett proved his doubters wrong once again and finished Michael Chandler in the third round. While he expressed interest in another fight against any of the top five contenders, except Arman Tsarukyan, whom he called a “sausage,” Dana White decided to award him with a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus for his ground-and-pound finish.

Similarly, the electric Jean Silva shut down Bryce Mitchell in the third round with a ninja choke submission, registering his fifth finish in a row. Well, that’s quite a record he’s got going there, and his performance at the Kaseya Center saw him earning the only other ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus as well. Moreover, even the main event didn’t disappoint as Diego Lopes and Alexander Volkanovski went to war.

Volkanovski vs. Aldo: Who truly deserves the featherweight GOAT title in your opinion?
Have an interesting take?
The 5-round banger, coupled with Alexander Volkanovski making history by capturing the belt for a second time while fighting through partial blindness throughout the fight, earned both headliners the ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus award. Now, let’s move on to the next story in the roundup edition.
Bryce Mitchell is ‘not offended’ with his loss to Jean Silva
Jean Silva really got to Bryce Mitchell during the press conference as ‘Thug Nasty’ warned the Brazilian that he was “barking at the wrong tree” prior to their fight. However, he couldn’t manage to win and racked up his fourth career loss. While he was submitted and laid unconscious on the mat, Silva decided to bark at him, defying the 30-year-old’s warning. Nevertheless, Mitchell seems to be in great spirits, thanking the fans for their support and urging people to persevere through challenges.
“Yall r so amazing. wat an honor to entertain yall. its ok to b dissappointed! im not offended! it was not a good nite for me but i can say i truly gave it my all. i encourage all yall to do the same and watever fite ur goin thru,” Bryce Mitchell wrote as the captions to a video he posted on Instagram. Furthermore, ‘Thug Nasty’ also appeared thankful about not getting seriously hurt, but understands that he needs to level up as a fighter.
“Thank God. He protected me. I didn’t lose my teeth. I’ve got no broken bones. I feel good about that, and fought as hard as I possibly could. I couldn’t have fought any harder,” Mitchell added. “I could have fought smarter. I’m going to go make some adjustments. I mean, he put me to sleep, so I had nothing left to give. I’m happy about that knowing that I tried my best. But I’ve got to get better. That’s just the lesson learned here, I’ve got to get better.”

Well, Bryce Mitchell still has a long way to go, if he ever hopes to make it to title contention. Now, let us take a look at what Alexander Volkanovski had to say about his status as a featherweight fighter after claiming the belt for a second time.
Alexander Volkanovski calls Jose Aldo the featherweight ‘GOAT’
Winning a championship belt twice is no joke, and in a division filled with heavy hitters and technically sound brawlers—such as the featherweight division—it’s even harder. Records tell us all because the only other fighter to have won the featherweight title twice, besides Alexander Volkanovski, is Jose Aldo. Considered to be one of the greatest UFC fighters ever, ‘Junior’ ruled the division during the late 2000s and early 2010s until he dropped the belt to Conor McGregor in 2015.

Meanwhile, in the most recent times, Alexander Volkanovski has emerged as a dominant featherweight who’s lost to just one featherweight fighter in his entire career, and that was too, when he dropped the belt to Ilia Topuria. But now he’s regained the title, and after Dana White wrapped the belt around his waist, it possibly sparked discussions about him being the best featherweight ever if he can register one title defense in his second reign, which Jose Aldo hadn’t done. However, Volkanovski, as humble as he is, claims that Aldo is the real “GOAT” of the 145 lbs division because he still doesn’t have as many title defenses as the Brazilian legend.
“I’m not gonna call for anything. Aldo is an absolute legend. He’s done great things,” Alexander Volkanovski stated. “I know I’ve done great things, fought absolute legends. The resume I have is pretty impressive. Same as Aldos. He’s obviously has had so many defenses. I’d love to get that many… I have got so much respect for Aldo, and I say he’s the GOAT because that’s the respect I have [for him].”

Well, he may not consider himself the GOAT, but Alexander Vokanovski sure is a legend, who’ll go down in the UFC’s history books as one of the most dominant and successful fighters ever.
