Before Conor McGregor flew to the USA from Ireland, he was a relatively unknown athlete in the States. However, having made his name on American soil through the UFC, ‘The Notorious’ decided to pay his respects to the country on the auspicious occasion of the 4th of July on Instagram, citing some combat history of two former US presidents – Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.

“What a time to be alive and free! Thank you gentlemen and to all the serving members past and present! Happy 4th of July America,” wrote Conor McGregor. The Irishman already has a massive cult-like following in his native country. However, his big fan base in the USA isn’t much far behind. Now, let’s move over to the piece of interesting news involving UFC 303 victor, Alex Pereira.

Alex Pereira scoring yet another knockout win over Jiri Prochazka put all sorts of doubts to bed about his legitimacy as the 205-pound champion. But guess what? Not everyone’s buying what ‘Poatan’s been selling. But why? Well, Magomed Ankalaev chatted with journalist Mike Bohn. There, the Dagestan native laid bare his thoughts on a potential title fight against Pereira, who he believes is “overrated.”

“He definitely has a strong punch, but overall his standup is overrated,” said Magomed Ankalaev. He further claimed that Alex Pereira is fortunate not to have crossed oath against serious opposition, which is unusual because ‘Poatan’ has already bested three former 205-pound champions.

“He was lucky, he didn’t face serious opposition. Wrestling is there, but I’m ready to fight him standing up to test him out,” Ankalaev added. Is this the fight for Pereira next? We’ll have to wait and see how Dana White navigates this situation. Now, in our final piece of news, we have a couple of featherweights trading verbal jibes.

The featherweight champion recently claimed that he isn’t sure who Dana White is going to put in front of him for his first title defense and even took a jibe at Max Holloway, claiming that he’s stalling the eventual encounter between them. On the other hand, ‘Blessed’ appeared to refute that claim, and instead accused ‘El Matador’ of trying to avoid that fight. Well, things seem to have escalated to another level as both fighters went on a verbal tirade against each other on social media.

“God bless you brother. Nothing against you! But it brings me great joy to be the first to disconnect you.. It seems so fun,” said Ilia Topuria on X. That comment quickly prompted Max Holloway to issue a reply as he stated, “God bless brother. Same here my man. You should disconnect from social media. I know it seems fun but it’s really not it.”

Now, we don’t have any idea regarding the status of a potential bout between these two, but Topuria did mention wanting to fight in Abu Dhabi in October. Will that be the day he faces off against Holloway? Who do you think will win the bout? Drop your views in the comments below.
