Makhachev and Khabib’s cousin Usman Nurmagomedov recently shared a post on Instagram, where the reigning champion confirmed that he had assembled a special team to train for his upcoming title defense. However, there was a catch.

Khabib Nurmagomedov was nowhere to be seen in that post, which was a photo of Islam Makhachev standing side by side with his Dagestani compatriots, which also included welterweight star Belal Muhammad, at the American Kickboxing Academy. This led Ian Garry to reveal that he, after talking with the UFC, agreed to take on the flashy Michael ‘Venom’ Page at UFC 303.

“I said yes to that name [MVP],” said Ian Garry.
