‘Do Bronx’ was set to get his chance at redemption against Islam Makhachev at UFC 294. However, the former champion fell prey to an untimely injury. Before heading to Abu Dhabi, he recently had his last training session in Brazil. It was during that session that he suffered a nasty cut on his head. “Today, in my last training here in Brazil, to be able to travel, I ended up suffering a head injury in my training, where I had a deep cut,” said Charles Oliveira, He further mentioned that he had to take several stitches to fix that wound. “I think I took 8, 9 points [stitches], something like that.” However, that did not put the UFC in any kind of problematic situation.

Undisputed featherweight champion and Islam Makhachev’s last opponent, Alexander Volkanovski, has stepped up to the occasion. He will now fight the reigning lightweight champion in the UFC 294 headliner. On the other hand, Oliveira’s time out of action is yet to be specified.
